Why should hafiz-e-Quran students be given extra marks: SC

Yeah right.
Qabalili and Balochi get admission on Quota system with barely 500 marks in FSC.
Most of them can't even write their names in English.
Likewise influential sandhill who pay a visit to examiner's home with a few guns, get 95% or more marks in FSC and get admission where they want, but can't write own name in English.
So don't tell me there are already a large quantity of undeserving doctors being made In Pakistan.

Judiciary has a problem with everything related to Islam.

Hafiz should be given preference as he or she spent significant time on hifz , instead of school work. Even then scored high enough marks to need just another 10 marks to get admission.
That's a testimony of genius and higher academic capabilities.

I agree there is corruption.

A hafiz is no indicator of anything beyond a good memory.

I just don't see the correlation and youngsters should dedicate their extra time on their studies instead.

When I was in phillipines I saw kids going to extra classes till 10pm. Pakistan should force their students to do the same.

The stupic judge can't see why sportsmen, children of university staff and provincial govt references should have allocated seats but has problems with someone who has a sharper mind since memorizing Quran is not an easy task.

given 20% additional marks
Its 20 marks not 20%

our so called "supreme court" rarely makes sensible observations, this one seems to be one of those rarities. what purpose does being a Hafiz e Quran serve in becoming a doctor? Its med school, not a theological university. Extra marks for being Hafiz e Quran would make sense if someone was doing a masters or PhD in Islamic theology but it doesn't make sense in going to med school to become a medical doctor.

31Islamic way of life.
(1)Steps shall be taken to enable the Muslims of Pakistan, individually and collectively, to order their lives in accordance with the fundamental principles and basic concepts of Islam and to provide facilities whereby they may be enabled to understand the meaning of life according to the Holy Quran and Sunnah.
(2)The state shall endeavour, as respects the Muslims of Pakistan :-
(a)to make the teaching of the Holy Quran and Islamiat compulsory, to encourage and facilitate the learning of Arabic language and to secure correct and exact printing and publishing of the Holy Quran;
(b)to promote unity and the observance of the Islamic moral standards; and
(c)to secure the proper organisation of zakat, 43[ushr, ] 43auqaf and mosques.

Hafiz shouldn't be memorising Quran to earn more marks but instead to please Allah.

To be frank, it take time and effort to Memorise the Qur'an. Students of Quran spend almost 3-4 years in memorising which damage their pace in schooling. Hence why marks are given to them because society need doctors, but society also need Hafiz e Quran's.. and society certainly need Haifz e Quran Doctors, Hafiz e Quran Lawyers, Hafiz e Quran Engineers.

How many of the judges have the constitution memorized by heart?

These servants should not dictate their masters.

So you do not have any problem with sportsmen, relatives of uni staff given preferences but anything remotely related to Islam gives landa liberals sleepless nights. People like you are the reason why TLP types get so much support from average people.

No one is denying how hard it is to memorise the Holy Quran but being a Hafiz shouldn't give you an advantage in the form of extra marks when applying for fields

What if I want to Memorise Quran as well as become a doctor ? Preparing for MBBS entry test takes 2-3 years while Memorising Quran require 3-5. Will I be able to do both as you know how tough it is to prepare for MBBS. If a Hafiz e Quran can enter in the merit list due to the extra marks trust me he was capable to reach to this point where just these 10-15 marks can make him a doctor. This means he already done 80% of what it takes to prepare for MBBS entry test.
