A contingent of Pakistani JF-17 performed during the Qatar National Day Celebrations yesterday indicating of possible sale prospects to the Gulf state.

Images of the aircraft performing aerobatics were released by the Pakistani MoD.

The next iteration of the JF-17, the Block III, expected to come with an AESA radar together with improved weapons, communication and targeting capacity is said to be have interested several national including Malaysia, Qatar, Nigeria and some other nations in Asia and Africa.

The JF-17’s relatively low price and long service with the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) together with a good performance record is a huge attraction for national unwilling to spend big money on competing jets such as the F-16 or Saab Gripen.

In June of this year, PAF officials briefed Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani about the JF-17 jet. The Emir of Qatar reportedly took "keen interest" in the multi-role fighter aircraft.

Inteenational sales are rife with all sorts of hurdles from big players who use armaments as a source of expression of their influence. Qatar will face the same pressure from multiple sources. So we need to watch this carefully without too much hoo haa. It is early days yet and it is not over till it is over.
I wish the JFT and PAC the best of luck.

Qatar is one of few interested parties in Jf17 Blk3. However, showing interest is one thing and buying it an entirely different thing.

I don't know...

Should we add QTR to long list of Nations interested. We have Azerbaijan, Egypt, Iran, Bangladesh and some country from South America (already).

It ain't a reason to start speculation, jump the gun & get all excited 'bout it.

That being said, placing an order for QTR is like them buying a pack of peanuts. Safe to say that the price tag for a JF-17 won't raise any eyebrows.

JF-17 won't be bought most likely, if it comes down to it Airbus, and other firms will bribe Qatari officials into buying their fighter.

Pak needs to approach Turkey for the sales!!! And, it needs to be furnished with the necessary dedicated manpower, armaments, EW assets, AWACs etc. And, all need to be without any strings!!! And, this combo will be ideal for ops like that in Libya etc....
No tard, Turkish tech is inferior and China won't let you access the source codes.

Countries with deep pockets will be arm twisted into buying the more prestigious, not to mention, more expensive planes from the west. Our plane is perfect for our needs, so let's keep improving it to meet the future challenges, and if anyone seriously wants to buy it, all the better, but stop raising the false hopes.

Egypt seems like it could be a customer, it would be a great purchase to replace Mirage 5, Alpha Jet, and Mirage 2k.
If Egypt ordered a high number it has to include SD-10, and TOT for weapons to a certain extent and possibly a work agreement where CAC makes a LOT more aircraft kits than it is now that are assembled in Egypt.

nobody arm twists countries with deep pockets. But one has to be cognizant of the fact that arms purchases most often come down to foreign policy considerations rather than on pure technical merits of the platforms. Arab nations purchase weapons not for war but rather to cultivate allies in the West. This search for Western friends is key to keeping Arab autocrats in power. Pakistan can’t match that and perhaps may never match.

PAF can barter with theior Mirage 2000 along some cash??????

JFT Block 3 would be a superior aircraft than Mirage 2000 why would they trade? the cost of maintenance of a new aircraft like Mirage 2000 and its overhauling, expensive parts etc .. come on man in this forum people are comparing it with Rafael for a long time now... and you pushed it back to the old timer :D

Makes no sense. Qatar has 10 rafale with 36 on order, 24 typhoon on order and 36 F-15E (QA) on order. They alternatively operate 9 M2K5 and 6 Alpha-jets. That is a total of 115 Frontline fighters (19 already in service) and 6 trainers for a tiny country. They have ZERO need for JF-17. Lets have some semblance of reality. AND all of that is without mentioning that Doha serves as the FOB of US CENTOM. Nobody is in any hurry to attack Qatar and even if US Ddidnt intervene, any other nation would be badly bloodied by those top of the line 115 fighters and the $12b worth of Patriot Missiles they bought.

In addition to all of that, you think the Chinese will let Pakistan sell the aircraft to a major US ally who houses USAF personnel at the same base where a blk 3 will be stationed. Blk2 is one thing but the AESA and EW systems of the Blk3 are somewhat based on cutting edge chinese systems and will give the US and idea of what chinas capabilities actually are. Not likely a viable sale.
