Imran Khan visit to USA and meeting with Donald Trump - Implications

This visit will have far reaching effects. This is perhaps the biggest reset in our relations with USA in the sense that it will be based on equality despite huge differences in our economies and powers. This relationship will be based on trade not aid. PM IK did not ask for resuming the aid rather he focussed on trade and this will benefit not only Pakistan but China as well.

We will see USA embracing the CPEC and benefit from the trade after all USA and China are two of the biggest economies and trading partners. Pakistan will be respected and in fact Pakistan has been respected which has been one of the life long mission and manifesto of the great Imran Khan.

Trade not aid... strategic mutually beneficial partnership based on principles of equality and sovereignty. No more transactional relationship. And with PM IK leading the charge established two things, no conflict between civil and military leadership. He duly praised the role of the Pakistan armed forces in the WOT and also established told the US govt that the civilian rule over the state while military does its job as per the constitution so no tug of war and no mud slinging.

Furthermore, he clearly talked about the corruption and the corrupt mafia i.e. NS and Zardari and this put the onus on US to not support them.

A lot of propaganda by the sellout media and INGO's failed and PM did a great job of voicing Pakistan's concerns and in fact he told them that there will some accountability for media so if Hamid Mirs were hoping of that US will exert some pressure on PM IK that not only backfired and now I feel strong action will be taken against the irresponsible criminals like Hamid Mirs who are criminal and terrorist sympathisers in the garb of journalism.

@Arsalan as I promised bro :)

A realistic discussion should wait until the tour is over. I predicted a surprisingly positive outcome for both sides. Let the good times roll!
Agreed. However we are not really looking to discuss the results here. The idea was to have a realistic and balanced opinion on what possible can come from this tour and meeting.

Just give us our Zulus and Hellfires
That is the most probable development that we might see as a result of the visit. More probable than many other things people have wished or hoped for

Now that US is negotiating with Taliban, the 'do more' mantra is burried (for now).

Pakistan has set the remit to 'peaceful resolution only' and that's what this new relationship will be built on.

What is very possible is that USA opens up the resource tap a little while Pakistan shuts off its non-State pipeline - for a while.

Pakistan FM Qureshi said delegation-level talks also held between the two countries.

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday said that US President Donald Trump has accepted Prime Minister Imran Khan's invitation to visit Pakistan.

Addressing a press conference in Washington, Qureshi said that matters pertaining to Trump's visit will be agreed upon soon, Geo News reported.

Qureshi also said delegation-level talks also held between the two countries.

His comments followed Khan's meeting with Trump at the White House on Monday. Qureshi said that previously Pakistan-US ties took a cold turn but now they have improved and the government is serious to re-establish better ties.

Trump being Trump any head of state meeting with him especially for country which has strained relationships like Pakistan can be tricky. He is a loose cannon and I was worried that he would embarrass Imran or Pakistan. Well that did not happen but he did embarrass India by his statement about Modi requesting mediation and Afghanistan with his statement about destroying it in 10 days. So overall a good trip for Pakistan. A lot of strategic gains. Zulus and Engines are minor issues and will be addressed in time. The US is also worried about loosing influence on Pakistan as it becomes closer to China. If we don’t get the Zulus or the engines for Atak, we will have no choice but to go for Chinese choppers and that will not be in the US interests.

Well, one of the Bosses (@Arsalan) said that he'll be merging the Threads into one at some point, but I thought i'd give my view.

This whole trip feels like a Bruce Springsteen Tour. I mean IK is nothing short of The Boss himself currently in the US. I can't recall the last time I had seen this kind of reception given to any of our past (God forsaken) leaders.

Yeah, sure there may be people arguing that what good has come out of this Trip. Yeah, there is that one fool on PDF who appears to make certain his name is the last posted.

But, we may not have come back with Aid, F-16's or Dr. Aafia Siddiqui..., but from the praises I've heard from Trump, Pelosi & other members of the House - IK has done well for Pakistan.

Now if good things do happen down the line, you can be certain that the PML-N/PPP nuts are gonna go on their tirade that its because THEY had formed good relations with the US when they were in Power.

Haters (India/PML-N/PPP) found this video disturbing as it praises our leader PM Imran Khan...
