It does not matter who is in Govt if it fails to concentrate on the worsening international economic weather. It has to move from identity politics to inclusive politics. Less poojas-prayers-mandirs to sincerity-hard honest work and cold hard logic.

Historically BJP has tried to concentrate on economic front during elections. But the last time they did (in 2004), they lost the election. People in India don't care about how much fiscal deficit gets reduced, or how much roads and railways are build. People care how much money they get or how their caste leader can win, or how the other caste, community will loose. Congress have did that all along, BJP is playing that card here. Giving away money. Ultimately that's how elections are fought. (The promise of Rs. 72000 PA by RaGa is another)
