Not again man. we have debated it to death and it clearly proves its against secular rules and claims by India.

Whats Un Islamic In the Poem??? What is that which Is Provocative in the Poem??? In 2002, BBC World Service conducted an international poll to choose ten most famous songs of all time. Around 7000 songs were selected from all over the world. Vande Mataram, in a version composed by Allah Rakha Rahman, was second in top 10 songs

some Muslim personalities have admired and even praised Vande Mataram as the "National Song of India" . Arif Mohammed Khan, a former Union Minister in the Rajiv Gandhi government, wrote an Urdu translation of Vande Mataram which starts as "Tasleemat, maan tasleemat"

I studied few years in an Indian school and had to sing this matarm every morning! It was a perfect pledge of hypocrisy me being the only Pakistani there!

I studied in a catholic school and I had to say a Prayer. So, what is your point?

Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people,
Dispenser of India's destiny.
Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind,
Gujarat and Maratha,
Of the Dravida and Orissa and Bengal;
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,
mingles in the music of Jamuna and Ganges and is
chanted by the waves of the Indian Ocean.
They pray for thy blessings and sing thy praise.
The saving of all people waits in thy hand,
Thou dispenser of India's destiny.
Victory, victory, victory, Victory to thee.

I rest my case. There is no name of Hindi speaking state. Do not take it personally, it is just an observation. I am not trying to demean any one per se.

Hindi speaking state as in Bihar, UP and MP? UP was a princely state probably called Awadh and Bihar was included in Bengal Presidency at that time. Vindhya relates to MP and as some poster mentioned Yamuna and Ganga relates to Bihar, UP. Why do you think out of all rivers he mentioned Yamuna and Ganga specifically?

NAME OF A HINDI SPEAKING STATE

I am purely commenting on the "technicality" not about the interpretations. I am not going to further drag this.. what started as a funny technical observation is being beaten to death by Fake Patriotism...

I rest my case.

And then was the daily pledge something like "all indians are brothers and sisters and I shall uphold intrest of my country at all times...." dont remember the exact wordings.

Well if you did then you should know that the two anthems are sung in Saudi Arabia.
The Indian national anthem Jana Gana Mana. not the Vande Mataram.
And also the Saudi national anthem Saraee

Vande Mataram is not the national anthem and I have been in Saudi Arabia and know that except for some special occasions it is not sung daily. Moreover, it is not cumpolsory either.

I'm just curious, what were the names of Hindi/Urdu speaking states of today's India on 1911?

One last time I will engage in this ...

Dravida is in Madras Presidency/ Mysore / travancore/ Hyderabad
Maratha == Bombay Presidency/Hyderabad state/United presidency
Utkala == Bengal Presidency
Vanga == Bengal Presidency
Sindu == Bombay Presidency

so are the states that were described in National Anthem...

The word "matarm" was used to depict "anthem" to add some hindi flavour to post. I am offcourse aware of the above mentioned reality!

The pledge brought back some memories haha. I had forgottem most of it. Here is the full version which personally is not bad at all. It is more inward looking and not jingoistic at all

India is my country and all Indians are my brothers and sisters. I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage. I shall always strive to be worthy of it.

I shall give respect to my parents, teachers and elders and treat everyone with courtesy.

To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion. In their well being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness.

Jai Hind

You are taking me in a wrong sense. I'm only trying to be in term with myself as to why Tagore didn't include any Hindi speaking states in the song. He was not man known to have any biased approach towards hindi speaking states. It was pure curiosity to know the reason of omitting Hindi speaking states.

mataram means mother in sanskrit. So you probably mean Sanskrit flavour. But still mataram doesnt have anything to do with anthem.

Lol, mataram is Sanskrit word. Bengali has more commons with Sanskrit than any other sub-continental lingos. Almost 50% of words are loaned from Sanskrit and Grammar follows almost that of Panini.

Here is my take, people may disagree... like any great poet, Tagore paints a picture with words..

Punjaba Sindhu Gujarata Maratha Dravida Utkala Vanga... describes the borders of India (in his view) in anti-clockwise direction...

the he fills the border with "hills" Vindya-Himachala
and completes it with rivers of "Yamuna and Ganga"..

excellent painting of a picture with words.. again this my personal take.
