Featured Pakistan Navy Type 054AP Frigates - Update, News & Discussion

Just 4 AShM?! Could have gone for all VLS for both SAM and AShM. Really poor use of space.
While i agree they should ideally have 6-8, we do need tk remember these arent the typical C-802/Harpoon subsonic missiles. These are CM-302. Mach 4 missiles and are even larger than C-602/Zarb. The warhead isnsaod to be over 500kg so in a strike, even 1 hit is likely to sink any frigate and probably destroyer from the kinetic impact (mach 4) let alone the explosion from such a large warhead. At the speed, it air defense may have only 30-40 seconds to engage it if it can even detect it. So they need for more than 2 missiles per target may not be there.

This response seems like defence of east Pakistan lies in west Pakistan... And we know what happened next ... We have Bangladesh... 4 is a small number regardless...

Naïve and incorrect assessment. Given the defence capabilities of the modern IN vessels, a single CM-302 even at Mach 4 will have a low probability of evading defences. Saturation attacks are needed to overwhelm modern ship defences. That's why the IN navy has gone all in for the VLS Mach 3 Brahmos, allowing concentrated firepower to overwhelm ship defences.

Get out of these theoretical calculations based on idealistic assumptions.

Facts are:

A subsonic "moderately capable" Neptune missile can penetrate multi layer defense shield of a flagship cruiser.

And Kinzhal, with in inflight maneuverability and launch flexibility, can be intercepted at hypersonic speeds.

You people only discuss the final phase of kill chain and ignore the 90% initial non-kinetic phases.

I fail to see the reason why an AESA radar is deployed on these vessels. In addition to a long range air search radar(Type 517, VHF set) this system offers no real advantage here. Such active array radars on modern warships are usually needed for guiding medium-to-long range SAMs to their targets. But the LY-80 here is not guided by this radar. Except for the sake of redundancy it means little for the ship. Instead PN could have done better by adding a single modern AESA system (e.g S1850M/SMART-L) for air surveillance.

Crown Prince? He looks like a tourist.

Currently, Pakistan only wants to buy 4 type 054AP?

Hi,

Wait and see---.

Hi
at the moment only 4 rest of the attraction is 8 submarines
may be few years more and we can see 052E in PN too
coz after the 8 submarines next order in line will be J31/35 kind of fighter
thank you

Or their budget was suddenly curtailed so they went for the critical piece of equipment to which they can always add weapons later. Most modern warships are now modular designs which means the PN can recieve them fairly sparse in teeth and as budgets open up easily add them on the go.
