Zee News has lately received plenty of flak, particularly from people with liberal and secular ideologies for the channel’s perceived leaning towards the Centre’s Narendra Modi government.

Not so long ago, the channel had come under severe criticism for its alleged role in doctoring the JNU video.

Faced with widespread condemnation, the channel described those opposing its coverage as ‘Afzal Premi gang (gang of those who were in love with the Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru).
On several occasions, the channel has prided itself for being patriotic adding that its coverage reflected nationalism.

That explains why the channel’s controversial editor, Sudhir Chaudhary, was visibly pained when the news of Modi’s interview to Wall Street Journal emerged on Thursday.

Chaudhary’s reportedly tweeted saying, “On completion of 2 yrs of his govt PM Modi chooses a foreign newspaper for his interview. Firangi style of a Rashtravadi Srakar. (sic)”

But, it appears, the man, accused of being a cheerleader of right-wing politics, had a second thought and soon deleted the tweet.

(Update: After we reporter this development, Chaudhary took to Twitter to calljantakareporter.com paid troll adding that ‘poor guys have a right to earn their living too.’)

His decision though became a topic of social media ridicule with users entering guessing game on the possible reasons for deleting the tweet, unusually critical of Modi.

Some pointed out that the anchor may have been reminded about the potential pitfalls of criticisng Modi as the case filed by industrialist Naveen Jindal alleging extortion is still far from over.

Chaudhary, who is facing a Rs 100 crore extortion case filed by industrialist Jindal supported by a counter sting, was arrested and sent to Tihar jail in the past.

He’s currently out on bail.
