Zardari inaugurates Naudero power plant

LARKANA (updated on: April 04, 2010, 22:49 PST): President Asif Zardari Sunday urged foreign investors to take advantage of the business opportunities in Pakistan and establish energy and infrastructure projects in partnership with provincial governments.

He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the first gas fired rental power plant of 51 Mega Watts at Naudero, district Larkana.

President Zardari said power producers were of benefit to Pakistan, as they kept the country out of darkness.

President Zardari thanked the Walter Power International, which has set up the power plant for making investment in the interior of Sindh saying it will create thousands of jobs for people.

Zardari said the government is pursuing the policy of setting up projects through public-private-partnership while ensuring rights of provinces.

The provinces would have equity in the power projects by providing gas and the land, which would help in creating projects worth billions of dollars.

He asked the Sindh government to establish a special incentive zones for new industries.

He said PPP has a vision for tomorrow and it understands needs of the future. It fulfilled its promise by making operational, the first power plant of Sindh in Larkana.

The Naudero power plant has been assured 12mmcfd gas for five years through PEPCO's Generation Company and an SSGC gas transmission pipeline has been linked to it besides laying of 132 KV transmission line to connect the power to national grid.

It will provide power to 2,500 tubewells which are designed to irrigate 75,000 acres of land that produces 1.2 million tons of wheat and rice besides ensuring stable power to over 1,000 average sized villages in the area.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Water & Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Interior Minister A. Rehman Malik, Minister for Privatization Syed Naveed Qamar, Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Provincial Ministers, Central Information Secretary of PPP Fouzia Wahab, MNAs, MPAs, PPP leaders and high officials were present on the occasion.

The Rental Power Projects you showed in energy thread ......i guess this is the first one inaugurated among them. I don't think any other rental power plant was inaugurated in March so expect 5 more RPPs soon

Firstly this is a rental powerplant, we can't expect much from it, as its purpose is to try to ease the burden and closing the trade deficit. Huge big projects like our dams which could go up to 4000MW will be completed very late probably by 2015-2018(correct me if I am wrong), So we have to be patient and thankful that loadshedding will slightly decrease.

And don't worry sir, more rental powerplants would be set up, not only this one, so load deficit will decrease even more.

This is what is quoted by Zaki in Pakistan's energy project sticky. He done his research

our energy demands are too high. Western countries total energy demand is only around 70% of their installed capacity (this is true for at least UK i believe). But here in Pakistan we are about 4500MW in deficit and in 10 years time our energy demands are expected to grow like 200%.

Now if you look at the stats posted by Sparklingway it is clearly indicating that we will be in deficit of about 4200MW in 2014 and trust me that is a great news. If we can manage to keep this deficit closer to 4000MW by the time Bhasha Dam and Neelum Jhelum and few other hydro projects going to be completed we will have enough electricity to meet our energy demands. In another words by 2017/2018 you can expect electricity for 23/24 hours a day for 2-3 years and then we have to come with another major plan to tackle with future energy crisis we are hoping to face in 2030.

PS: - The stats sparklingway posted does not include Rental Power Plants so expect less deficit in 2014.

Gud work PPP's government has introduced reforms in power sector and there is a mjaor decrease in load shedding compared to what it was during year 2008
