Zardari away from Islamabad for three weeks - thenews.com.pk
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari went to Karachi during the last week of December and is staying there though the first week of January has passed. It can be said that the president had gone to Karachi in the year 2012 and would return to Islamabad after the beginning of the new year 2013.
However, it would be the first occasion a great personality occupying the most important post of the country remains absent for so many days from the Aiwan-e-Sadr in spite of his presence in the country. It is right that the president is dealing with all affairs, which he does normally as head of the state, in provincial capital Karachi. But this is the longest absence of any president from the federal capital despite his presence in the country.
President Zardari went to Karachi on December 19, 2012 and purpose of his visit was to mark the death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto. However, he was also engaged in other important matters. According to details he held a meeting with APHC leaders and discussed the Kashmir situation. He also held an important meetings regarding law and order situation in the country, particularly in Karachi, and long march of Dr Tahirul Qadri. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and other high officials in Bilawal House.
What is the reason of President Zardaris long absence from capital? The official sources are not ready to answer this question but The News has ascertained some reasons of this absence which are quite interesting.
According to a source who has access to affairs of Aiwan-e-Sadr, a spiritual personality with whom President Zardari has close and warm relations, and is known as the pir sahab of the president, advised President Zardari to keep himself away from the mountains from December 19 to January 10 and also asked him to keep himself near the sea. Aiwan-e-Sadr is located at the centre of mountains and Karachi near the sea. Therefore, it is assumed that this information is correct. The president who cannot go abroad for so many days selected Karachi.
However, it would be seen that whether President Zardari would return to Islamabad immediately after January 10.However, some sources said that the reason of his long stay in Karachi may be to make PPP candidates strong in Sindh for upcoming elections, to stop growing influence of PML-N and to limit the power of nationalists.
