Ideally people will vote for you, if they think you can deliver

People vote for someone they like. THat likeness could be for any reason.

As a example, if I stand against some other new guy in a local neighborhood watch election, people who know me since 15 years would vote for me even though the other guy is a better candidate as he has experience in security measures and he can do more. But he is a new guy and people envy him, they'll vote for me. Doesn't mean I am the right guy.

It's up to the society to decide and with an illiterate society, you get illiterate people at the helm.

Remember they all have to be educated with degrees right? So long as they are good capable people and have some political acumen, why not?

I don't object to a person who has a degree or political acumen or is clever or has a vision. But honestly tell me, would a rickshaw driver have that all? This is in no way meant to degrade or ridicule a rickshaw driver or the profession, but I guess we all agree that a degree holder is better equipped than a rickshaw driver to steer the country out of it's problems.

If he has the capabilities, why not? If he has the credentials, he could be a sweeper for all I care...but he wouldn't be a sweeper for 10 years if he had the capabilities would he? I hope you are getting my point.

i don't think PTI would have done alot of scrutiny for the many candidates in the party elections.

But this is a appreciable move.

For example you may be a better analyst than Zaid Hamid. You don't have a show, but have proven your ability in the various debates you have engaged in here. You may be worthy of a show. The same way they may be worthy of leadership.

I'll take this as a compliment! !

But look at it this way, I have atleast proved my abilities...another member has proved his capabilities, what capabilities did a rickshaw driver prove that he goes on and becomes a president of a district?

Is he aware of the challenges? Does he have a clear roadmap in his mind? Does he appreciate the qualities his team has? Does he have the required knowledge about a field he is going in? Is he administratively capable?

Votes shouldn't be on popularity, but on capability. It isn't a popularity contest.

As you can see, this is also a fault of the voters rather than the voted. As I said before, a leader comes from within the masses, and a nation votes for the people similar to them.

It never ceases to amaze me when people still defend PML & PPP. And I know people from all walks of life that still do support PML/PPP. IK is someone that can be tried as he has the passion to do or die. However, how effective he can actually be is up for debate because of his party's office bearers.

Atleast nobody can accuse IK of corruption, the biggest challenge to our country and to this so called democracy. No other person, except Musharraf, can be cleared of corruption in this country.

I recall that the Roman Empire was supposedly the birth place of democracy. However, only the educated elite had the right to vote and thus this nation expanded into one of the greatest. How can democracy work in our system where 90% of the population is not free? My fellow Pakistanis are bound by their Sardars/Nawabs, or by Cast or by hunger/poverty that they sell their vote for a meager sum of a few hundred or are under some influence such as threat to life/property etc.
