The reporters learned from the Joint Earthquake Rescue and Relief Headquarters of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) and the Peoples Armed Police Force (APF) in quake-hit Yushu of west Chinas Qinghai Province on the morning of May 28 that after working strenuously for 20-plus consecutive days, the quake-relief troops had knocked down more than 4,000 unsafe houses, cleared away 850,000 cubic meters of construction waste, rebuilt 340 km of road and placed 7,600-odd quake-hit people in total.
This marks the successful completion of the ruins-removing task in the first phase, ensuring the advance of the post-quake reconstruction according to plan.
According to introduction, since the start of the first phase ruins-removing task, nearly 10,000 officers and men from the PLA and the APF came to 78 quake-hit villages of 9 towns and townships in Yushu Prefecture covering a scope of 12.5 square kilometers with more than 300 engineering machines to remove ruins.
