During dark times of Musharraf, all political parties chant slogans for democracy including Islamic and secular ones. It seems that if Musharraf is removed and democracy is restored, fate of the people of Pakistan will change. That changed and democracy took the charge but the time becomes darker with every passing day for the masses. When I look at back to Mush era and compare it with the conditions today, it clearly shows that nothing has changed. Mush dictatorship was underlined by submission to USA and same is the story today with the democratic leadership jumping over all past records of submission to West. Mush dictatorship was underscored by Drone attacks but current democratic era has left behind those numbers by a huge margin as dozens and dozens of Muslims are being killed by Drones, leaving the families of victims ready and prepared to turn into suicide bombers.
Mush dictatorship was highlighted by inflation, same is going on with sky rocketing rate as masses are trying to meet both ends with all possible resources. Dictator Mush era showed up a lot of corruption in army and government ranks, but I dont think it was anyway near to what Democratic government has achieved. Mush dictatorship is known for selling of Dr. Afia whereas the democratic government is quite happy to keep her in American prisons. Mush allowed USA agencies like Blackwater and Xe to operate in Pakistan, the democratic government proved the point as 3 Muslims were killed by Raymond Davis and still he was able to leave safely. Mush dictatorship era was known for amendments in curriculum to serve Western masters, same goes with the current democratic leadership. Load shedding was there in Mush dictatorship era, its still in place for uncountable hours in democratic rule. Karachi was famous for its unrest and crime rate in Mush era, and it has maintained its reputation under democratic rule. Budget allocation for health and education was nothing as compared to that for defense in Mush era; its pattern hasnt changed a bit today in democratic rule. With all these examples under consideration, it has been proved that there is only one difference in dictatorship and democracy. In former, there is one guy who has the absolute power to make laws for his own benefit whereas in latter case, there is a bunch of guys who have got this shared power to make laws for their own benefit. It makes no difference as far as masses are concerned, and we have experienced it, yet another time.
