Yasin Malik attacked by BJP men in Ajmer, Valley erupts
AJMER: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohd Yasin Malik was attacked and manhandled on Friday by members of the BJP Yuva Morcha who stormed the hotel in Ajmer where he was staying.
Malik, who was in Ajmer to pray at the mausoleum of Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti, however, was not injured.
Authorities rushed an extra police force to the area to provide security to the JKLF leader, said district collector Manju Rajpal.
Around 11am, BJP youth activists barged into the hotel where Malik was staying and attacked him, demanding he leave Ajmer immediately. According to eyewitnesses, they broke down the door of his room and assaulted him. A slipper was thrown at him when he rushed out to the balcony. The protesters also blocked the Delhi Gate road for more than two hours.
"Yasin is a traitor and he does not respect the national flag. He came here to disturb the communal harmony," said Neeraj Jain, state secretary of the BJP youth organization. "We came to know that he arrived on Wednesday but he slipped out of the city yesterday," he added.
"He threatened BJP at the time of the party's Ekta Yatra and is involved in activities against the nation. How could we welcome him here?" said former BJP minister Vasudev Devnani. There were minor protests in Srinagar by JKLF activists as news of the attack reached the city.
