Wrestler Narsingh Yadav cleared of doping charges, free to compete in Rio Olympics 2016
Wrestler Narsingh Yadav was on Monday cleared by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), paving the way for him to compete in the Rio Olympics later this month. The panel is of the opinion that one time ingestion by Yadav was not within his knowledge.
The NADA panel said that Yadav is a victim of sabotage done by a competitor and there is no fault and negligence on his part and it is impossible for an anthlete to keep a watch on drinks during practise.
''I thank the public, media and everyone who supported me and stood by the truth,'' tweeted Narsingh Yadav. Supporters of Yadav celebrated outside the NADA office after the agency gave him a clean chit.
The grappler, who failed a dope test ahead of Rio Olympics, had earlier filed an FIR against a junior wrestler for allegedly mixing supplements to his food. In the FIR, he identified the alleged junior as the brother of an international wrestler in the super-heavyweight category.
Narsingh’s chances of competing in the Olympics seemed bleak last week after the wrestler failed a second dope test which was conducted on July 5.
The junior allegedly entered the star wrestler’s room and mixed illegal supplements in the food. Narsingh’s allegations of a sabotage gained popular support when his roommate Sandeep Yadavat the SAI Sonepat camp also tested positive for the same substance. The alleged infiltrator is identified as a 65 kg wrestler who has represented India in the junior ranks.

According to Olympic rules, a world championship medal ensures a berth for the country in a particular category, not the individual wrestler. However, it is seldom the case that the wrestler who has won the medal is replaced by someone else for the Olympics.
3) But, even as Narsingh Yadav received backing from the association, he failed a dope test conducted by National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on July 5, and cried foul indicating towards a sabotage. The results were announced on Monday.
4) Narsingh gave a written complaint to WFI later in the day and named a senior wrestler and an official behind his failing the dope test. Later Sandeep Yadav, Narsingh’s roommate at the SAI Sonepat camp also tested positive for the same substance.
5) Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, chief of WFI backed Narsingh from Monday itself. Singh said, “The federation believes Narsingh is innocent. Injustice has happened with him and we are hopeful he will get justice.
