Woman jumps in front of speeding metro in Delhi, escapes unscathed - Hindustan Times
The video of a suicide attempt by a young woman on Delhi metro tracks has come to light. HT has the shocking 48-second clip which shows the woman jumping on to the tracks in front of a speeding train.
When the train is gone, she emerges…a bit shaken but without a scratch!
Both the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) — agencies in charge of the Delhi metro and its security — confirmed that the incident happened on June 9 (a Sunday, which possibly explains a deserted platform) at 5 pm at the Civil Lines metro station and was caught on the CCTV camera.
CISF officials said the incident took place on Line 2 of the Gurgaon-Jahangirpuri corridor.
DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said: “The woman apparently tried to commit suicide, but it was a miracle that she emerged unhurt.”
According to DMRC officials, it is almost impossible to survive such an attempt. She might have been saved because of a ditch or depression at that part of the tracks, they said.
CISF officials informed that the woman (name withheld) was 21 years old and lived in a Delhi slum. “She came to the station alone apparently to commit suicide,” said an official. There was apparently no private guard or the CISF staff nearby when the woman tried to take her life.
The station manager of the station had called her father and handed her over to him after reasoning with her, sources said.
“There have been 10 attempted suicides this year but this one was unique and miraculous. We don’t know how she survived,” said Udayan Banerjee, DIG CISF.
