Police in Lakki Marwat, one of the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, have banned women from shopping in the markets without being accompanied by a male relative in Ramazan.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanaullah Khan said women coming out for shopping without a male relative to bazaars would be arrested.
He said the decision had been taken keeping in view the sanctity the Ramazan, the Daily Times reports.
The decision was made during a meeting on Friday, which was attended by Khan, local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl Maulana Bashir Ahmad Haqqani, Jamaat-e-Islamis Malik Ikamullah, shopkeepers union president Malik Jehanzeb Hassan.
According to the paper, Khan also warned the shopkeepers to avoid profiteering and price-hike.
He also assured that complete security would be provided to the worshippers during taraveeh prayers at the mosques.
