With no bullet proof helmets, jawans falling prey to maoists

Bro.. dey hv change their tactic . if dey get foot hold in north-east region it will be easy for them to get modern weapons and amunations from Bruma, thailand and bangladesh and there are lots of misguided youths willing to help them for little profits. indian govt. is totally ignorence about it ... dats d sad part .!
That will only give India a better reason to thrash them. For now the maoists are looked upon as saviours for people who are downtrodden and poor and join them in innocence...cause they kill politicians and police generally and poor people look up to them for help against politicians and tycoons.
Indian government is not ignorant but it is greedy and lazy it waits till water reaches above neck.Else look in 1971 when we planned we thrashed pakistan so easily. But in other wars we despite knowing pakistan's intent and nature keep waiting until the brick did not land on our heads. We always take tight slap then respond with a hard blow. But slap has become a must first for our supposedly idealistic(in world view)politically correct leadership. We should start behaving like china in some matters.

specially in north-east as they are at theri buding stage ..

I agree. After elections they will start hopefully. We have a proven system to eradicate naxalism, few states they were able to cleanup earlier. Again, example is a BIg state like Andhrapradesh which was one of the most naxal affected state in 80's.

Since the title was different so i thought that,s a different subject.
Also do you have just 800 soldiers fighting with maoists? Every single soldier needs a bullet proof helmet.

There are 0 soldiers fighting the Maoists, anti Maoist combat ops are undertaken by central and state police forces

But the fact is they are spread over 40% of indian territory, which makes it the biggest insurgency in india, even bigger than kashmir.

That does not mean that there are maoists armed to the teeth operating in these areas..

Even if some of them "just" beat up people or try to spread their communist propaganda in an area, it will make it an affected area.

Maoists roam around in the dense forests and jungles where law enforcement is naturally very weak.

Naxalite issue has waxed and waned over the years.

I thik the trouble comes if the Maoists are able to take the fight to urban areas.

Pretty much you have poorly armed police and paramilitary fighting guerillas in thick jungles.

As you said, there are no Indian Army personnel taking part in the ops.

I always thought the Indian Army had Kevlar helmets. Are these Para-military, or perhaps police? (oops, just read a post asking the same thing)

Police.

Indian Army had announced for years that they will not take part in Anti-Maoist operations. They feel the situation is managable by paramilitary and police. Second reason is that if the Army do get themselves involved, it will have a civil war fell to it.

Thirdly, the Tribal belt have one of the poorest Human development indicators within India, so effort must be given to that front.

.
Why should we support the maoists? - Do we have a contract for supporting every terrorist movement in India? - Please note that Indians too are human beings have kids and families like we do and maoists have blood on their hands.

Yes, Agreed but also tell them when it comes to Kashmir thats Kashmiris are also humans

Its the reserved police forces.

Bottomline is if army gets involved Maoists will get finished in one month but the army has made it clear that they will not fight against there own people or citizens. What i like about Maoists they only kill greedy politicians so they have support of tribal peoples. What i dont like about them is they have started bombimg schools and create hindrance in infrastructure projecs lately.

Best way to deal with them is economically devlop the poorer regions fo India,Gov. is already doing that but we all know that how democracy works in third countries like India thats whythey have managed to survive so far although one can say that they are now weak and vulnerable and wont survive for long as India devlops more.

Urbanization in the Maoist areas can only get rid of this menace.

@Secularpakistani Maoism is not at all a big issue in India, now it's there in couple of smaller states. It takes few weeks to clean it up with a force. They are trying to be in news during election season for various reasons, once it's over they will not be aggressive anymore.

Doesnt mean we should let them fight without basic accessories. Whether there is insurgency there or not, even of there is 0 insurgency in India, we should have them use basic accessories, BP chests and helmets.

Its widespread but not all those claims about them controlling 40% of land is bullshit. They have strong foothold in small Parts states like Chattisgarh,West Bengal,Bihar and Jharkhand
A little correction here!West Bengal Police with the active help of the Central Forces has successfully eliminated the maoist movement in the state and there hasn't been a single maoist related incident in the state for the past two years.Heck they even killed the chief of the maoist military commission Kishen in an encounter way back in 2011!

Not much in West Bengal anymore, they became strong in WB for a short stint when Trinamool Congress was supporting them for political gains, Now Trinamool Congress has come to power and booted them outside the state.

In most states Maoists are surviving because of the political gains parties make by using them, and monetary gains from extortion is another honeypot for some politicians that keep Maoist insurgency alive, the story is similar in north-east also. :)
