NEW DELHI: Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured by the Pakistan forces after an aerial dogfight in February and was returned to India two days later, has been shifted out of the Srinagar airbase amid concerns over his security in Kashmir Valley.

According to news agency ANI, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has now posted the brave officer to an important airbase in the Western sector.

Varthaman, who became a national icon soon after his release from the Pakistan custody, had returned to his squadron in Srinagar in March.

He was captured by the Pakistani Army on February 27 after his MiG-21 Bison jet was shot down in a dogfight with Pakistani jets during a brief aerial combat.

He had downed an F-16 fighter of Pakistan before his plane was hit. He had fallen over the Pakistani side of the border and was captured by the Pakistani forces.

Owing to intense international pressure, Varthaman was released on the night of March 1 by Pakistan.

After he was captured, Varthaman showed courage and grace in handling the most difficult circumstances for which he was later appointed by the country's political leadership and the people in general.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after Indian fighters bombed terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad's biggest training camp near Balakot, deep inside Pakistan on February 26.

Pakistan retaliated by attempting to target Indian military installations in J&K the next day. However, the IAF thwarted their plans.

The airstrikes by the IAF on the JeM camp came 12 days after the terror outfit claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a CRPF convoy in Kashmir, killing 40 at least troopers in Pulwama.

Its amazing how you can use words to color the same event in a manner thats advantageous or at least less damning from India's persepctive.

Truth is he got shot down.

No F-16 was lost.

And it was IK's grace that let him return to India so quickly.

off topic, but do you guys remember when he first got caught and Indians were jumping up and down saying that he was not IAF because of his facial hair?

One of the many mouth farts Indians made then:cheesy:

They were making so much fun of his physical appearance saying stuff like "this monkey faced officer is not ours!". Unbelievable, now they hailing same person as hero, hahaha.

.
They are doing this to counter another "Sajish" of ISI as WC Abhi is ISI's Manchurian candidate.

He will lure NSA doval/ BS dhanya into a two seater cockpit of SU 30 and then fly and crash that aircraft into modi's office.

Maj Adnan Sami will provide the necessary recce report.

. . . . .
India will forever remain tainted and insecure after the Abhinandan humiliation. The more India mentions Abhinandhan the more this becomes apparent.

His flying carriere over. He will now spend his days being a joker for IAF.

Wars and skirmishes always see some survived and some fallen heros on both sides.
IMO he is respectable person but GOI and Indians trying hard to insult him.
