Chinese company launches 50 megawatt wind energy project in Sindh province of Pakistan

Islamabad: A Chinese company is setting up a 50-megawatt wind energy project in Pakistan's Sindh province at an estimated cost of $120 million, while having plans to launch nine such projects in future.

Hydro-China International Engineering Company Limited has vowed to set up a 50-megawatt wind energy project in the province's Gharo area, reported an agency citing Wang Youngqiang, the company's vice president.

The project would be a symbol of China-Pakistan friendship and it would start functioning by June 2015, said Wang, adding that the company had plans to initiate nine more such projects of same frequency in Pakistan.

Someone does not want these projects to take off so few days back Chinese were threatened there.

Project could be viable to provide energy to far flung rural areas. Cost to benefit ratio of wind tunnel has already been low. So it will be better we uts set up to provide energy to rural area as they face more shortfall than urban cities

Wind power is a supplement to other sources of energy. However not a panacea for load shedding. Still I would say a good omen for Pakistan.

Be very careful when deploying wind energy. Care should be taken to ensure its efficiency and efficacy. why? To give you a simple number close to 8% of power generation capacity in India is from wind. but generated capacity is close to 1.5%.

So its a good beginning, but, one should be careful in deployment.
