New Delhi: A leaked audio recording of senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, where he could be heard saying that the party could “relook” the revocation of Article 370, has triggered a row with the BJP.

The recording was part of a conversation on the application Clubhouse, where Singh was answering a question by a Pakistani journalist. Clubhouse is an invite-only audio chat room app.

“Democracy was not there in Kashmir when they revoked Article 370, ‘insaniyat’ (humanity) was not there as they had put everyone behind bars. Meanwhile, ‘Kashmiriyat’ is something that is the fundamentals of secularism. Because in a Muslim-majority state there was a Hindu king and both worked together. In fact, the reservation in Kashmir was given to Kashmiri Pandits, therefore, the decision of revoking Article 370 and reducing the statehood of J&K, is a sad decision. And the Congress party will certainly have to relook at this issue,” Singh said in the audio.

After the audio leaked on social media, several BJP leaders began attacking Singh for his comment.

Amit Malviya, head of BJP’s IT cell, shared the recording on Twitter and said: “In a Club House chat, Rahul Gandhi’s top aide Digvijaya Singh tells a Pakistani journalist that if Congress comes to power they will reconsider the decision of abrogating Article 370… Really?”

Similarly, in a press conference Saturday, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “Digvijaya ji thanks that journalist on such a question and says that if Modi ji removes from power and Congress government comes then he will re-establish Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir (sic).”

Meanwhile, Singh retorted to the criticism on Twitter and said: “Illiterates cannot understand the difference between shall and consider.”

Meanwhile, Fisheries Minister Shandilya Giriraj Singh claimed that “Congress’s first love is Pakistan”.

Looks like stupid Modi cheap publicity stunt hasn't worked for India :p

With change in status has the Kashmiri movement died??? Kashmiris hate India even more now. Thanks to master stroke by Modi G the great.

Let's face the facts. It's done.
He plays the campaign game, not realistic in India.
It's politically suicidal. They won't do it. Besides, Congress is so weak, so let's forget about it.

Congress knows it can't come back, thus it's just consolidating it's minority vote bank.

Rhetoric like this shows why congress is not at all serious with national sovereignty issues.

370/35A are dead nothing can bring them back.

Further delimitation and resettlement of Kashmiri Hindus are the future of kashmir.

They are not a good opposition . Congress .
That is why we are stuck with this half hearted dilly dallying "hindutva" government.

Congress has become a bunch of noobs...unable to read people's sentiments.

Of all the BJP's harebrained schemes.. revocation of art 370 in the only act that finds widespread support through out India.

Despite Narendra Modi's recent blunderings.. For this reason alone, people wouldn't want to vote congress back into power.

It may not gain traction in India, just yet, but it’s a policy difference that can be promoted to pro-democracy groups around the world; I.e. “voices in India oppose Modi’s totalitarianism”.

The power of his words will be more useful (in gaining foreign support) outside of India then in India, especially if the West wants a partner that will create a more harmonious India (rather then one that is at war with itself) to focus more fully on China.

Indian Congress party has a history of doing things that are politically suicidal
Those politically suicidal things Congress did may very likely be beneficial for the India long term interest, while BJP is doing a lot of drama things for BJP short term election.

Modi created a lot of drama on China-India/China-Pakistan border, meaningless for India long term interest. But Modi did it every time when he needs to divert attention.

First time in 2017:
GST
VS
Doklam standoff (June 16, 2017 – August 28, 2017)

Second time in 2019:
Indian general election (Apr 11, 2019 – May 19, 2019)
VS
2019 India–Pakistan border skirmishes (February 14, 2019 – March 22, 2019)

Third time in 2020:
Mismanagement of pandemic
vs
2020–2021 China–India skirmishes (May 5, 2020 – present)

Indian Kashmir may well be granted full statehood again in the future, that is not inconceivable.

A return to 370 etc is.

Things have been mostly quiet lately, there seems to be some fwd movement in Indo-Pak talk (all backchannel atm)

Let's see what happens.

The BJP isn't either that wicked or dumb.

You're basically alleging that one man, for political greed.. also head of state of a nuclear armed country of a billion plus.. goes and makes military trouble with his neighbours whenever he needs to.. just to win the elections ?

It might have it's weaknesses but democracy really isn't that much of a clown show either LOL.

Clearly you have learnt quite well about Indian politics but have much to learn about representative politics in general.

As long as BJP stays in power, its good for both China and Pakistan. On one hand the party has destroyed the very fabric of Indian society through communal politics, on the other the hinduvta ideology has destroyed her international image.

So win win situation for Pakistan.

Couldn't agree more. No Pakistani would want BJP to not remain in power for the foreseeable future.
