Unless North Korea permits Americans to occupy their country and use their soil as a proxy to take punches from China and Russia in place of U.S. targets, while paying the usual protection fee to the U.S. with the usual overpriced 3rd rate American junk for 2nd rate "allies" purchase scheme, South Korea wont be allowed to unify with anything.

Poor south Asian countries like Bangladesh/Pakistan/India has as much/if not more cheaper labour than N.Korea Moreover there are other cheap labour markets in SEA as well like Vietnam, Philippines etc. So S. Korean companies can(and they are already doing that) move their operations there. There are many poor countries/cheap labour markets out there.
So Kim's N.Korea can carry on with their madness while the world moves on ahead.
Cheap labor by itself is not the only prerequisite for companies moving in. Koreans in general have better work ethics, smarter workforce than southeast asian countries.

.
spot on and we in pakistan also have to rid ourselves of this cancer

this is a very old US trick in the book, create a conflict, force yourself to help uninvited with the intention of never leaving and if asked to leave create same conflict again....middle east, Koreas, Afghanistan are examples

I think Kim Jong Un strictly on a personal level is more liberal than his predecessors. And realizes he can't run the country the way it was being ran before(my intuition). And he might be willing to make compromises with South Korea and America.
Geopolitics take into account the personality of the ruling "Head&Body"...
Kim Dynasty... is not Kim-Jung-Un... it wasn't, is and will never be him...the Kim Dynasty is an Ideological system...who is incarnated by a Man... A Man who has no meaning...only for the Material side of that Ideology.

Meaning... the problem is not One man... it's ALL those who hold a position of Power and those who accept that power to be upon them... You can see it as a simplified view of a sect...

In a Sect... the most radical ones are not always those "preaching THE Truth" but those listening... Those who build their life upon that "Truth". Therefore... the one trapped is not always the one we think it is... Kim is as trapped in this truth as his followers..

One move of each side (those Up and those Down) could be taken as treason by each side to the other...
At the time of my post the votes are split evenly between yes and no, 9 each.

The ppl voting on this seem to be just as divided as the Koreans :enjoy:

On a serious note...there's quite a few hurdles that make unification an impossibility in the foreseeable future. One of these hurdles is Kim Jong Un...the man has everything...money, power, women, a kingdom of his very own, and basically all he desires. Why would he want to change the status quo? Unification will disturb what he has going for himself and possibly take it all away. I've never known a man who would willingly give up all those riches/power for the greater good.

Secondly if by some miracle Kim Jong Un can be convinced to agree to unification then there comes the hurdle of the new Cold War. US likes South Korea in its camp and wants to keep it that way. China/Russia(China specially) wouldn't want to have a staunch US ally that close to it sitting unchecked...so naturally China would like North Korea to remain there as a counter balance to South Korea. Any attempts at unification will be thwarted under the pressure of both US and China on their respective sides.

I would personally like the two to be united bcuz in my opinion that's what's best for the ppl(specially the North Korean ppl). There would be some problems in the beginning for the United Korea bcuz it will find itself with a major part of a population that's poor...but in the long run it will be better for them economically to have more ppl, more land, more resources.

What has he done specifically that makes him so much better than his predecessors? I think he is worse. He took out his uncle under false charges just bcuz he posed a potential threat. Even had his brother assassinated...his brother was living abroad and wasn't even much of a threat.

Umm I might have overlooked that.
That's y two mind are better than one.

THe ecoomic, political and ideological gap between both Koreas IMO is too big for a reunication to be immediate or smooth. Maybe North Korea is "mad" because it might have to give into South Korea's way of life more if reunication happens? I feel before any unification is to actually happen, NOrth Koreans will need a different or changed political ideology to believe in and accept. Cuz the North Korean govt dominates by manipulation and altering of that unique different mindframe. North Korea seems to have a serious case of victim/history-remembering psychology.

Kim Jong Un look to have everything now, but hes just like Assad is Syria, will get nothing but the whole family will get killed when no Russia's support...Kim knows that and he doesnt want it will happen to his family, so he tries to be nice to SK and US now.

If I was Kim, then I will talk to US to get a safe house for Kim's family in N.K's friendly countries like VN or Cuba now. Kim doesnt wanna die like colonel Gadafi.

. .
He was quite healthy and good looking when he first came to power. Why did he fatten himself is another thing that confuses.

Well he might not be so liberal. But I sense that he wants to make some compromises and do some negotiations.
LMAO...... Are you being sarcastic?. Ask even Chinese members on here if fat kim is better than his father/predecessors or not.

Bro. The problem is that Fat kim knows that there is almost no country out there who might be willing to give him refuge considering the type of sadistic regime he rules and all the suffering/killings he has inflicted on the North Korean people. He knows that if he ever left power, him and his regime will be tried for crimes against humanity at some point in future.

Fact is: KIM REGIME WILL NEVER CEDE POWER, EXCEPT OVER THEIR DEAD BODY. They are willing to take down the whole country with them instead of leaving power. They know what awaits them if they ever do . :D:P

Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely. :D

Lol compromises? Kim and compromises are two words that are a mutually exclusive. Lol
Kim often makes such 'goodwill gestures' after he has been belligerent or indulged in more provocative nuclear tests/ballistic missile launches/threats and when sanctions have been tightened after such provocations. This is when he does this so called 'goodwill gestures ' to ease sanctions and keep the free aid money from South Korea flowing. :D

If only North Korea was as weak as and incompetent as Libya was...then you might be right. Sadly, an advantage countries like IRan and North Korea have is that they have taken alot of time to prepare for a US initiated attack, so that gives them some advantage. Gaddafi just assumed he would never get attacked, because he thought he had "made up" with the west. BUt he hadnt really though..

Bro, NK helped VN during VN war, so we have to protect his family or at least his son, his wife if he seek refuge in VN to return the favour....but he hasnt ask yet cos he still got Russia's support.

Of cos Kim can not rely on Russia's support for good, NK economy is quite bad now, thats why he changed his mind and try to be nice to SK-US now to gain more support.

As I know, Iran economy is under US's sanction and look not good now. VN also was under US's sanction and we know its very hard to survive.

Although unified Korea still possible right now, it will painful process for both Korea. For North will be mass migration of human resources to South, there's huge social problem. For South they got economic burden for dealing so much problem from North. It will not feasible right for know, except North has reach near or one par with South in term of economic and social strata.
