Will India accept a Muslim Prime-Minister?

We have had Muslims Cricket Captains, Muslim SuperStars, Billionaire Muslim Industrialists, Muslim idealogues, Muslim Generals but sadly muslims remain either unrepresented or confined to their pocket burrows when it comes to Politics. Currently we see a token presence in National Politics.

Why do you think this is the case?

India prides itself on it's secular democratic leader - So is it unreasonable to assume that 20% of population cannot produce a head of state of sufficient calibre while they excel at other spheres? Or is India and by extension it's majority politicians have an innate mistrust of Muslims when it comes to running the nation.

Do you think will a major party like BJP or Congress will ever nominate or elect a Muslim PM candidates? Do you think it is an idea whose time has come? I am not saying select some incompetent but atleast process should be started, non communal leaders should be cultivated so that one day take occupy the highest political office of our country. We have had enough of Azams and Owaisis who not only exploit but misrepresent their community.

Such a leader would be beyond symbolic and perhaps will manage to do what Obama failed to - Heal the rifts b/w our communities.

In this context

- Do you have some up and coming leader who in mind?
- Will people vote for him to be PM rejecting their communal biases and solely on his merits?

We can accept anybody as PM if he or she speak the language of India. We had 3 Muslim presidents. However, Muslim leadership in today's age has fallen in wrong hands. No Indian Muslim leader seem to be speaking the language of India.

Any Jews, Parsi or Christian can become PM easily but for Muslim, it's almost impossible.

But we all love country over everything if anyone doesn't discriminate people based on caste or religion & has vision for India who has proved his capability in past, people will easily like him.

Absolutely, you have already had 2 presidents who were moslem. Give credit to India it is very possible. In Pakistan or Bangladesh - I really doubt if a Hindu can ever become PM.

Cheif justice of our supreme court Rana bhagwaan daas was a hindu. We have special minority seat in parliament bcz they dont have enough votes to have their own seats. So first elect a prime minister who is a Muslim then gloat about it. We all know that President is just a ceremonial position which has zero power so spare us the rhetoric.

My point here was to negate the point that there are no Hindus in pak army.
There are Sikh and Christians in armed forces. I don't have exact percentage of minorities but you cannot count them on fingers thats for sure.
You might wanna answer me this, muslims make 13-14 % of total population yet there only 3% muslims in Indian armed forces. Why is that?

Responsibility of a large and complex country as India melts a person inside out. As long as the person is visionary and non-corrupt he/she can become Prime Minister state don't matter even Kejriwal can becomes (if he ever becomes mature in future ). As for Muslim candidates in future i would like to see MJ Akbar or maybe Shazia Ilmi ( female Muslim for women empowerment but she has a long way to go i guess)

Exceptions Sonia and Rahul baba, these two are suspicious (those under influence will never feel that) and have monopoly over Congress leadership since they choose themselves indirectly through dictation . Need help politically infiltrating a country? Ask her .

In general Indians would have no problem as long as the person is a liberal Muslim like Kalam. Bhakts are a special case though, they even declared Hamid Ansari anti-national when he was merely following the right protocol. But I suppose such extreme right wingers are everywhere.

Good on you for admitting that you were wrong, not many people can do that. That particular incident just shows us that we shouldn't be so quick to issue "anti-national" certificates or ascribe motives to people. In this case, Ansari was right, so that makes it a little easier to admit that we were wrong. But let's assume that he was indeed wrong and he just forgot the correct protocol. Would that make him an anti-national? I used to mock mullahs for their tendency to issue "kafir" certificates, it appears to me that the anti-national certificate issuing school has drawn a great deal of inspiration from them. Both operate under similar principles.

BTW I use the term "bhakt" to describe only the extreme right wingers, who are incapable of any reason and are invariably bigots; an Indian equivalent of a typical die-hard Trump supporter if you will. I don't use it for all BJP supporters. So you certainly don't qualify.

Yes, India will accept a Muslim PM. It won't be easy and it won't be happening tomorrow - but it'll happen a lot earlier than a non muslim PM in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

When our (Bangladesh) 1st Hindu Chief Justice was appointed - Jamaat and Islamist dogs went crazy. So, a Hindu PM isn't something I can see happening in my lifetime.

People of India do not elect PM directly, and I doubt they will protest just because somebody is muslim. but his actions will be scrutinized much more. I dont see any PM material among muslim MPs (Azad may be)
