I have noticed this trend which I first thought was exclusive to Pakistan.

Media reports only bad events in Pakistan. Apart from cricket receive no other positive press.

India gets a bit more positive coverage but still gets picked on by discussing crime issues (rape) and other things.

Is western media just being honest or a deliberate attempt to malign South Asian countries?

western media is right about pakistan, your country is indeed a terrorist hub and an international migraine. No other sane country uses terrorists as a strategic asset.
All the western aid you guys get basically goes into your offense infrastructure. pakistan is a deeply radicalized islamic nation, no minorities are safe in your country.

And about India please dont ever hyphen India with your country you should be better hyphened with somalia.

Is western media right about India too then?

Why do you even care what the west says about us......who are they?

.
The west is typically of the idea that only western ideas are awesome and everyone else trying to challenge it is a sinner. China currently embodies a challenge to the notion that the west has all the answers to world governance - and they get ripped on by the western media too as mortal enemies. Same used to be the case with Soviets, Cuba or pretty much any country that the west thinks does not belong in its sphere.

What European countries fail to realize is they landed where they are by economic exploitation of the so called third world countries for several centuries.

.
Because they have a lot to be "put down" on. Take it on the chin and get on with the job in hand

Ignore the troll. This is a genuine issue.

Western media has indeed picked up certain issues regarding certain countries like rapes in India, terrorism in Pakistan etc.
State sponsored media propaganda is the reason. It is a form of neo colonialism.

Read this on some insight: Rape in India – Why it becomes a worldwide story

those of you who are quoting the Suicide Troll will be put down like him

BBC is not balanced, there coverage of rape case exposed them completely they didn't even stop after social media outrage exposing their hypocrisy, I find CNN much balanced than BBC & also CCTV for some extent

bbc picks stories from desi media.. they did not feature rape case before delhi case because desi media did not... befor it was incredible techy india or poverty.. these two main news... you need to follow long enough to realize that.
i think bbc is slightly biased against china.

There are many positive stories also are goin on in desi media. Why they only pick negative one?? Simple reason , they don't want to show a positive image SA countries. Why India is lack behind in tourism than western countries??? Western media is responsible for our loss in tourism. Why anybody want to come to visit a ' rape capital of the world"?? But truth is US is a Rape Capital of the World.

again lies... the rape stories has not decreased number of tourists actually. BBC got positive stories too, you need to follow long enough to realize which stories will feature there. at any point there can be only 6 or 7 news stores on India page... it will be the top stories of that day. they can scout for 'good' story on a bad day.
