Why does Japan work so hard?

Japan is doing something wrong look at america it is a world power yet they live an easy life, without all luxuries too and they dont have demographic problem there.

Most Americans work hard, but they do something a lot of immigrants, etc. that work similarly to the Japanese dont do, a break... Working the double time, over time, etc. will wear on anyone. Especially, the Japanese who a lot are competitive, professional class.

.
Plus false to assume they have no life
They had little but they made it work with hard work since 1960's

I am not sure if any of you have any experience of working in japan .... but i do.... contary to popular belief i found the japanese simply hang around the office. They are not particularly productive but the culture is such that they feel the need to hang around in the office doing nothing what so ever and even sometimes sleeping.

I only worked for a few months on a specific project and frankly i found it bizzare.

They have very limited descision making capacity and confidence and always defer to superiors so even minuscule stuff needs a descision of the board. It was a IT implemention and after a while we simply ignored all the japanese and implemented it vanilla. Crazy people, polite but definately crazy.

I think the National GDP is enough to decide who are productive or not

People don't realize that Japan runs the East Asia's Economic markets
Banks , Development projects , Trade. Together with China and growing interest from Korea

Very demanding society. High pressure and high stress environment Highest suicide rates, high debt and no will to live or procreate. Pretty much sums it up. They have very little crime yet live in a police state where even minor things are admonished. Who knew it's tough being a robot for humans? Emotions maybe...
