Why does Bangladesh maintain a military? Just who is it's enemy?

I am quoting from the official site of the Chakma Autonomous District Council in West Mizoram, the areas were attached to the Lushai Hills for administrative and revenue purposes- this action(amongst others in the Bengal part of CHT) had ramifications for the native inhabitants which continue to this day- which i would rather not mention here on PDF.

And in 1891, Demagiri and adjoining areas were merged to the North and South Lushai Hills for Administrative purposes. As a result, the Chakma Kingdom had to forgo its land and subjects beyond the rivers Thega and Sajek.

magnificent resource---thank you...have to find out whther they still have a Theravada Buddhist community in the Indian part

And why does it do so much of arms purchase? I have read that they even have submarines? Why do they need all this? Is all that meant to fight China someday?

To conquer Indian northeast, Odisha, Bihar, liberate our fellow Bengalis in West Bengal and establish the United States of Greater Bangladesh.
It's our birthright as the inheritors of the glorious Sultanate of Bengal.

Yes, the Chakmas in Mizoram/Tripura are Buddhists(Theravada). Few of those living in scattered pockets in my state(and few in Tripura) follow Hinduism too. I have never discussed religion with my Chakma friends and colleagues, but they do take part in our religious and cultural festivals.

Yeah legit question. I wonder that too. Considering Bangladesh is just another undeclared state of India. Why make your federation your enemy who helped & fought to give you independence? @Nilgiri

LOL.
A Pakistani whining to a sanghi lover Indian to bash Bangladesh.
The fact that you had to whine to Lolgiri to incite dramabazi tells me enough about your character .Or are you just a closet sanghi yourself?:azn::azn:
Of course, it might also be because you know the last time you lot tried to take us on by yourselves, you lost half the country to lungi wearing farmers with about 93k of your soldiers as prisoners.

It's not just about now when BD is mistaken as an undeclared state of India. The question dates back to the decades of 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Just what have we done to them to get such hatred?

Are we hating India ? Maintaining a military does not mean that we are hating anyone . We do not have any problem with anyone until they buy our enmity . Look at your compatriots here on PDF , are they sane people ?

Surely we hate the policy of sanghi govt , but we have no problem with your common peoples who are our well wishers and also we had no problem unless sanghi govt started mess in Kashmir , and later NRC , CAA and threatened us directly and Indirectly !

Cuz Sardar Patel was furious when Partition awarded Chittagong Hill Tracts to East Pakistan ...till this day..I also donot understand that decision....The area has a thriving Theravada Buddhist community...monks and all

Buddhists even then formed a minority - less than 10% (I don't know where you get this 'thriving' term). The area has been majority Muslim for the longest time - been a part of the Bangala (and therefore 'Mughal') Subah since the fifteenth century. Burmese savages have attacked a few times like they have done for eons, but their net efficacy is minor in that area. Most of the Buddhist inhabitants in the hill tracts are migrants within the last two hundred years because of issues in bordering Burma areas.

The case for a strong military is there for bangladesh. A strong air force is more important than the rest especially in their geo strategic environment. The threats bangladesh faces are the same it faced thousands of years ago. Its ports are vulnerable.
The hindu fascists in india could capture chittagong as their is no sea port for their north east. As assam and other states grow they will be more dependent on myanmar or china. Hindus would eye chittagong then.

What an idiotic thread! What logical person would ask such a question? Why does a sovereign country need a military is something anyone with little hint of brain would know and that is to safeguard that sovereignty along with protecting the people. Even in the case of no visible enemy because in this age it takes a second to make enemies.
Why are dumb idiots infesting pdf now-a-days?
Mods is there a reason for this thread to go on? I mean logically!!!

Your 'proof' stems from a misunderstanding - because you do not know local situation.

The prevailing belief in the administration at that time was that these were Buddhists in the hill tracts areas. That is what is being shown. That would be only partially right.

However these Buddhist Chakmas and Tenchangyas are itinerant migrants from Burma. They are not 'settlers' in that area and hence have no permanent domicile (since they practice 'slash and burn' agriculture (Jhoom cultivation) and move around a lot in the hills. They crossed borders since there was no border at the time, and border still is more or less open, because of the type of terrain that exists there. Out of kindness - the local Muslim rulers let these folks live there.

I will not go on a lengthy debate with you on this. You have to educate yourself about local conditions at the turn of the last century in the hill tracts and also today. In any case this is off topic.
