Simple question, what's stopping Pakistan develop and surpass Japan? Been to Japan a few times and it's a amazing country, they are advanced in almost everything. So why can't the countries in Asia try and base their model of development on Japan?

. .
No offense, but why can't you stop asking these dumb questions?
Just ignore it.

To answer OP's question, there is no reason why Pakistan can't. All that needs to happen is Pakistan's tax base needs to increase drastically, which would increase revenue, fix the security situation, and invest in infrastructure. Also, increase trade with the world, and stabilize Afghanistan.

If Pakistan's growth is 5-7& for the next 20 years, Pakistan's chances are far higher than India's to develop the country in a decent amount of time, and take people out of poverty and into the middle income bracket..

Different time, different culture, different history, different problems. Pakistan cannot simply copy Japan or indeed any other country , it has to find its own unique way out of its own unique problems.

The measures to be taken like improving infrastructure or increasing trade are the same for every economy but the method used to get to that point is going to be different for every country. If Pak grows at 5 -7 for next 20 years it will do well, but not sure why you think that india would do worse providing India also grows at the same or higher rate for the next 20 years. It only takes a generation for a poor country to become primarily middle class if they get the policies right.

First off, I never said Pakistan would or should copy Japan's method, that would be terrible idea, all I'm talking about are results.

Next, population is a major issue. India has to cope with over a billion people, Pakistan only has to deal with a sixth of that. If both nations grow at the same pace, Pakistan will have an easier time, simply due to a lower birth rate. Pakistan also has a somewhat centralized system, where as India leaves a lot of economic policies to individual states.

Anyway, it's a huge topic, one that I'm not suited to discuss. I only know the very basics, so I can't elaborate any further. The main thing is tax collection, which has become a major issue in Pakistan. The next government (if not this) will guarantee increase the tax base and increase domestic revenue streams

Pakistan has a higher birthrate in comparison to India. India's birthrate is closer to World average.

Hi,

Someone asked the same question to the Japanese ambassador to Pakistan during Musharraf's regime when the economy was good.

The reporter asked," when do you think Pakistan will succeed"? The ambassador replied " NEVER "?

He had not expected such a blunt answer from and ambassador. He asked why?

The ambassador replied " Pakistan is travelling in the opposite direction of success---it will never get there".

Now this was at a time economy was getting better---money was coming in---Pakistanis were on the up and up----.

Hi,

Now the real answer to your question----. Pakistan is a community without any order in it----. They also lack character.

These are the only two ingredients that you need to succeed---. You at least need to have one of them just to move ahead in the right direction.

Japan---it had both of them---plus it had U S helping it with the martial plan----.

.
Development means Industrial Development

SO far Pakistan has developed ONLY in the TEXTILE sector

.
If you look at the most successful countries they have respect for their own country's rules and they follow them. They have discipline and a sense of community.

They dont shit different than you so its not like Pakistan can't become like Japan.

Pakistan can, and with the right amount of political capital , She will develop to the level of industrialized nations like say Japan, Germany, the US etc.

Sir,

All and any challenges can be overcome. This applies to Pakistan's case especially.
