World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) formally declared Coronavirus a pandemic during a media briefing.
Earlier the World Health Organization (WHO) had resisted that Coronavirus cannot yet be declared a pandemic. However, the number of people being affected by the COVID-19 kept rising outside Wuhan, China. Worldwide infections have surged well above 100,000 and the death toll has spiked above 4,000.
The announcement was made by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as he spoke to a media briefing. He said that in the days and weeks ahead, WHO expects to see the number of COVID-19 cases, the number of deaths, and the number of affected countries climb even higher.
He added: “WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction. We have therefore made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic”
