Big news in the morning, seems like after the UK gov, now the US gov is making BIG budget cuts for defense too!

White House Commission: Kill The F-35B and halt the V-22 buy

A draft document issued by the two chairmen of the White House commission on reducing the federal deficit recommends scrapping the F-35B short-take-off, vertical landing (STOVL) fighter outright, along with the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle, and curtailing production of the MV-22 Osprey as part of a 15 per cent DoD procurement cut.

The proposals, contained in a supplement to a $3.8 trillion plan unveiled today, are not final and do not have any legislative force but represent another setback for the STOVL fighter.

The F-35B is not the only Joint Strike Fighter version to be hit. The chairmen calls for production of the USAF F-35A and Navy F-35C to be cut in half in the years up to FY2015, with the cancelled buys to be replaced by F-16s and F/A-18s...

So no F35B and only half of the F35A and C? End of V22 and EFV? Man if this is true they really are in big trouble!

For IN this will be the end of any F35 interests for sure, because the price will increase even more, but it will be interesting which versions of F16 and F18SH they will buy. Block 60/IN, or the new Block 3 upgrade and what about F15 SE now?

Boeing displays manned F/A-XX concept jet hope they want to in vest in this

and till then i think F18 along with limited F 35 will take care of the job

V22 is a great aircraft but its a pain to master it and expensive i hope that justifies in cutting it down

That's what they want, but if the US MoD has no money to fund these developments, they will never be reallity. If they really cut these things, the probably will replace F22 in some years with F35s and not with a complete new development.
What do you think will this impact to the F35 development as a whole? Shouldn't the price incease dramatically and what will the other partners do?

Also, maybe Indian MoD should think twice before starting the developments of 2 x 5th gen fighters and a stealth UCAV now.

yes there will be an impact i think it will end up as THE F 22 .

Speaking on overall development i think there will not be any future up grades on this present platform unless some one in pentagon will act as a guardian angle to fund on further research.

in my opinion the price will increase since the developments cots have exceeded twice the amount actually granted so the over all platform price will definitely shoot up no doubt in that

in my opinion to things can happen as far as the partners thinking is concerned stop further investment and buy the F 35 s for the amount they had invested for or justify the investment by buying other goodies

either they think F-16 & F-18 is still good or they like to sell few more F-16 & F-18 to the world.....
