What's new

While you are asleep...........

I warned my roommates the first day itself, and during my first "Show",I woke up in between and there was a dozen guys watching the show, all scared like chicken!

I can understand their condition. have some experience.. actually i was in 10th was on trip organized by my school and we where 3 friends and we were sharing room. and unfortunatly both of them like you.. trust me it was damn scary. i was freaked out that night.

Wow...

Sleep walking, talking is OK.

But slapping others and punching on the wall

I think its Parasomnia @acetophenol

Its often related to my condition of my mind when going to sleep. The day I punched wall,a friend took a note of mine and hasn't returned it,which pi$sed me off. When asleep,I cursed him calling his name several times and punched the wall.

Some amount of moving during sleep is
normal and there's nothing to be done
about it. If your friends are doing it during
REM sleep (i.e. the dreaming phase of
sleep), then it's likely related to stress or
being over tired. During REM, the brain releases a chemical that somewhat
paralyzes the body. Not completely
paralyzes, but it should make it difficult to
move. That's why if you wake up out of a
dream, it can be hard to clench your fists.
In some people, if they're very stressed of over tired, their body responds by
producing extra melatonin which makes
them sleep more deeply. Then the dream
phase essentially outlasts the paralyzing
chemical and you can get anything from
just talking/kicking in your sleep clear on up to full blown sleep walking.

Now that was a heck of an explanation bro! Please explain REM phase in a similiar manner.

rapid eye movement sleep. A period of
sleep characterized by rapid periodic twitching
movements of the eye muscles and other
physiological changes, such as accelerated
respiration and heart rate, increased brain
activity, and muscle relaxation. REM sleep is associated with activity in the pons of the
brainstem; when the pons is eliminated, REM
sleep does not occur. REM sleep is the stage of
sleep in which dreaming takes place and is
thought to allow for the organization of
memories and the retention of learning. REM sleep is the fifth and last stage of sleep that occurs in
the sleep cycle, which repeats itself about five
times throughout a period of sleep. It is preceded
by four stages of non-REM sleep. REM stages
become longer with each cycle and account for
about 20-25 percent of total sleep in adult humans. In infants, roughly 50 percent of sleep is
REM sleep, which is believed to be necessary for
the maturation of the central nervous system.
