Which ASEAN Country Will Become The World's Next Manufacturing Hub?
Source: Which ASEAN Country Will Become The World's Next Manufacturing Hub?

I know there was this thread already, but because:
1, that Thread is now into garbage time with all those unrelated arguing,
2, I personal think "Which ASEAN Country Will Become The World's Next Manufacturing Hub?" is a false Proposition.
Hier is why(This is my personal idea and parden me for my poor English.):

In fact if we talking about "next Manufacturing Hub", I will not even think about any ASEAN countrys in like 30 years. The only choice is maybe India.

In my opinion, Manufacturing Hub need 3 elements: Resource, Population, Market.
Population is important because it provide the workers, and also you can't just hold the big Manufacturing only depands on your outside market.

There used to be UK, US, Japan, German, China.
UK is the first one because the Industrial Revolution happened there, and UK as the empire on which the sun never sets, has all three: Resource, Population, Market. After the fell of the empire, now UK is also no more there.
US after that take the place from UK as a Inherit, because America is also in the Anglo-Saxon culture with UK, because the contibute in WW1 and WW2. And also the global market, which is secrute by all the american oversea bases. But the global trade dream lead american to the way of Deindustrialization.
Then is Japan. Japan has the work hard culture, and also exchange his own national security with america, get the US protected resource and market.
German is a little like Japan, but also a little different. German with French build the EU, which provide German the solid dreaming place, included exchangeable Source, Humanresouce and a big free Market. EU fall will make German fall.(Resource, Market are also the reasons why German and Japan start the WW1 and WW2.)
China has Resource, Population, Market already, but with the help of WTO, china can achieve everything quicklier and better. But I think China is still not "Manufacturing Hub", rather surrounding it with Japan and German, though maybe closer than the other two.

In this case, I can only see India has the potential, because India has already Resource, Population, Market. But India has also problem. I'm not sure the future Manufacturing still will be the population intensive. If Industrial Revolution happens again, India will have a big problem to provide enough food and also enough work to the people, not mention with the competition of China, because China has also a big population to feed, which means China will not give up esaily.

As Thailand or Vietnam or Indonisia, the problem is they have not Resource or Market. Because ASEAN is not even a little like EU, even 30 years later from now. In this case for example Vietnam want to be a be a "Manufacturing Hub", has to give up something to exchange the protection of resource and a open market(no one will open it for total free). And the otherside of this exchange can only be USA, EU or China, which can provide a big enough market for a "Manufacturing Hub". And the TPP is not this kind exchange, TPP will help Vietnam, but not big enough to suport Vietnam to be a "Manufacturing Hub".

According to my opinion.

The one which is located near Singapore that is more promising. At the center of trade route. A country which is near Japanese, South Korea and Taiwan, and the one that has close history with them. A country which is near Asia Pacific region and has a big domestic market that make them resilient during 2008 economic crisis. China, India, Indonesia still had a positive growth during that moment, for Indonesia we still got around 4 % economic growth during that time.

Proven as a stable civil society country with a good political system. I can say all proven democratic country in the world has much better future for long term.

Talking about Indonesia, even though we have much lower population, Indonesia manufacturing out put is near Indian one. India in other hand has a good service industry.

My money is not on India...

Culturally speaking Indians are known to be spiritual and philosophical but throughout history they were never industrial or crafty as the Chinese. wikipedia list 30 out of 133 historic inventions were invented in ancient China but only ONE in ancient India..

For someone like me who tend to look into history for answers that pretty much says it all.

Unlike CN, VN only accept green tech in TPP. We will use TPP to build our own multinational corps and become rich & strong nation.

The next manufacturing hub? I think this is under the false assumption that China will no longer be the World's manufacturing. China will still remain the World's manufacturing hub but instead of being labour-intensive and low-end manufacturing, everything will be done with robots and automated production methods for high-end and hi-tech goods. However, where these goods go will drastically change and most of these high-end goods will be for China's own domestic market, as China becomes more affluent and China eventually weans itself off Dollar phony money, and lets the Yuan appreciate to its true value, and Chinese have far greater purchasing power.

The low-end manufacturing stuff will be shared by a multitude of small developing nations as none have the capacity to totally replace that of China's on their own.

China doom merchants can just keep on dreaming as China continues to grow and evolve.

All the best Vietnam, may your country prosper and become a wealthy one !
Thanks, but we only accept green tech in TPP, so maybe we can not become "manufacturing hub".

We dont wanna be polluted like CN.
