Whereabouts of abducted Balochistan secretary unknown

QUETTA: The whereabouts of Abdullah Jan, Balochistan’s higher education secretary who was kidnapped in Quetta’s Wahdat Colony on March 15, are still unknown.

Quetta police chief Abdul Razzaq Cheema said on Thursday that though Mr Jan’s kidnappers had not yet contacted anyone to demand ransom for his release, all indications of the investigation into the case showed that he had been kidnapped for ransom.

Talking to office-bearers of the Quetta Press Club and other journalists, he said that the involvement of banned organisations could not be ruled out in the kidnapping.

The city police chief said that no one from Mr Jan’s family had so far received a call from the kidnappers.

Only one call was intercepted in which the kidnappers had confirmed the secretary’s captivity, he said, adding that that call was made from a SIM issued in Afghanistan.
