The USAF used to do a better job of arming aircrews than they do now. During the cold war, each seat kit (bailout kit) had a gun called the M-6. It was a crude sheet metal weapon, double-barreled over/under, with a .410 gauge shotgun under a .22 Hornet rifle. The .22 Hornet is somewhere between a .22 rimfire and a 5.56mm in power. The Hornet would kill a man or an animal up to deer size with ease, and the shotgun part was designed to kill birds and rabbits for food.

This disappeared in the 1960's. We petitioned to have an M-4 carbine in the seat kit, but they decided we'd carry the 9mm Beretta.

And an M-9 won't do much damage would it?

What was the ammo number?

I'd take a krinkov (AKS-74U). It's a nice little gun with the 5.45x39 "poison bullet". Lighter recoil than the 5.56, but in a compact package and proven AK action.

Here is another interesting Sub Machine Gun from Russia

The PP-2000

It is used by the Russian Special Forces

It not only fires the regular 9mm but a special armor piercing +p version of the round too.

Unlike the German MP-7 and the Belgian P90 it does not need special ammo
