I agrees with you probably not a widely practiced punishment / exercise but sometimes instructor do such things t amuse the trainee or for their own fun.

You have of course considered the possibility that you might form the lower level in a same-sex version of this exercise, and your enthusiasm remains undiminished. It kind of reinforces stereotypes.
