I saw The Martian last night and felt it was highly overrated. I aside from a good scientific accuracy applaud, I would give it no other points. It was typical intense hollywood action.

I've watched a number of Mars landing films and don't really like most of them, however Red Planet with Val Kilmer was not that bad. I saw it in Karachi with my friend when I rented it on VHS waaay back in 2001.

What are some of your favorite films about Mars landings and/or colonization?

Finished watching the martian this morning.Expected this movie to be in the league of Interstellar or Prometheus but

I agree, Red Planet was not bad at all. I watched it a few years ago. One of the things I like in it was the rollable-screen computer :

Then, Mission to Mars was also good. The Discovery channel two-part series Race to Mars are quite good. And the thriller, Last days on Mars was also not bad.

Not specufically about mars, though it have some scenes on mars, but i found Brad pitt's "Ad Astra" a wonderfull space movie. In the league of Gravity. I agree martian was again an average movie but the first to cover that side of story. But, if you seen the movie "the space between us" you will know its one of the best movie based on Space. Its about a boy born to an astronaut during journey towards mars. He grow there and then come back to meet a girl he talked on "internet-or whatever technology it can be" and also to find his father

I unfortunately missed watching Ad Astra. I don't know if I missed it by chance or if it wasn't released in India at all.

Yeah, seems to be a mature film. I will definitely watch it when I chance upon it.

Nice topic, sorry for late reply, took a total break from usual life no internet, no phone, no shopping from city center, no TV just family life, lots of fun, barbecue, experiments in cooking, lots of broccoli/ice berg/organic chicken n Turkey, and of course strawberry picking and spring plantation.

If I were to choose the best landing Mission to Mars definitely is the best in movies.

Red Planet was only enjoyable to watch once and only once. Some movies are just like that.
