As Shehzad Roy has launched a campaign to "reform matric board" ( #reformmatricboard ), i would like to ask the Pakistani members here which high school channel they come from. O/A level or Matric/FSc ?
I was of the opinion that instead of Matric students its the O/A level students who are lesser equipped for further studies and practical life. But SR wants to reform matric board. So fellow members tell us where you come from then we can form an opinion which of the two types are brighter as the ableness of members here is well-known because of their posts.

I did O/A.
less equipped?one of my friends gave the alevel exams last year because i forced him to do so,he had scored 900+ in his fsc earlier.
He scored straight Us and wasn't even able to identify different type of equipments used in physics and chemistry practical exams, performing the practicals was not the part of his story, the most pathetic alevel student can mange that.
O/A has resulted in the things you use today whereas you can also see what matric and fsc students have achieved till now.
O/A are expensive but are fruitful in everyway of life(not the case in sub continent tho),you can not score more than E grade if you do not have concept of the whole chapter.
I have learned from quite a lot of people who tell me that O/A students struggle in desi universities because the teachers are not impressed by the concise paper work they do,which is not the cup of tea of desi professors.
In a nutshell matric/fsc focuses on ratta whereas o/a focuses on concept.
It is evident from the fact that matric has a defined book from which the exam paper will be made nothing out of the box, whereas o/a has no book but a syllabus, infinite possibilities, that is why alot less people struggle to score even B in their alevel's .
O/A is the study of 1st world,matric/fsc of the third world.

Easy dudes... In high school teaching the trade off is between critical thinking and mass. Students can be taught less material and made to reflect on it or they can be made to absorb greater mass with lesser attention paid to critical thinking. Matric is not Pakistani model. It was what the British gave to India before independence. O/A level is the newer British model. So its actually 100 year old model vs newer model. That older model was geared towards critical thinking and this newer model focuses on injecting students with sufficient mass. Pakistanis have only found shortcuts around matric. This matric system has produced many scientists in Pakistan, India and 100 years back in Britain.
So I was basically here to test the mass vs critical thinking argument. And in a way you two have already contributed.

Matric/FSc and O/A level of study is a very basic level of studies and although it helps in molding the student into what he will be for the rest of his life but it won't effect the higher studies of an individual which are the same..And No O/A level of education have nothing to do with all the inventions and O/A level did not result ``in the things we use today.'' as it is too much a basic and 101 kind of stuff to help in any invention or theoretical work.@muhammadali233.
And for starters,it's
not the curriculum and syllabus of matric(which is quite similar to the one taught in O/A levels) which is lacking in any matter but it's the approach of students and their teachers which needs new reforms.Reforms that encourage the teachers and students to concentrate more on the concept which is already there in the books instead of rot learning...
Well I have done Matric/FSc and i have many a friend who have done O levels from reputable institutions like Roots,Beaconhouse and Pak Turk.So the i know their level of education too.....
