Due to concerns regarding an infiltration of ISIS militants into Israel through Iraq and Jordan, the government decided to build a smart fence along Israel's eastern border
Around the month of June 2014, the Israeli government decided to build a smart fence along the eastern border with Jordan. This fence is expected to include technologies that are similar more or less to those of the smart fence already built on the Syrian border. It seems that Israel's primary concern is ISIS attacks that would come from Iraq, cross the Jordan, and reach the border with Israel.
Meanwhile, the fear that Jordan will fall into the hands of ISIS, as happened in Syria and Iraq, is stored in a soundproof box as far as the Israeli government is concerned. If you ask politicians and the military echelon, on record, they are rarely talking about the scope of the threat. On the Internet, rumors have been circulated that Israel supports Jordan through the transfer of military technologies as UAVs. Alongside these rumors, the United States supports Jordan in practice, through military equipment, and European countries operate jets from the Kingdom's military bases, bombing targets in Syria and Iraq.
But along with all the help received by the Jordanian Kingdom, the fear of a scenario in which ISIS creates chaos in Jordan, one that could lead to the collapse of the regime, has not faded. And thus, we build a fence. And it costs Israeli taxpayers quite a bit of money, so it is clear to any sensible person that such investment does not come without a concrete fear. It is possible that that IDF may also see "the day after ISIS" – even then, a Middle East divided into sub-states, does not bode well for the kingdom.
