Thunderf00t (Phil Mason), did some calculations based on the video evidence available regarding the blast. According to his estimates, the Chinese estimates of 21 tons of TNT is way low, according to his calculations, the explosion was equivalent of 300 tons of TNT.

Although Phil isn't one of the most trust worthy source about social activism, but about scientific matters there might be some credibility to this particular incidence. I would love to hear some input from Chinese members.

The 21 ton TNT-equivalent yield estimate was based on earthquake sensors but the second explosion was an airburst not a groundburst so the estimate is wrong. Yes it was more like 300 tons.

Not really that strong, big fireball does not meant it is powerful. A similar discussion Reddit only yield around 1-1.3 tons of TNT judging from the Richter scale. West fertilizer plant explosion only yields 21 kg.
