Dhaka, Dec 1 (bdnews24.com) — Warid Telecom, the majority shares of which were bought by Bharti Airtel earlier this year, has been renamed as Airtel Bangladesh Ltd.

The company made the announcement at its headquarters in the city on Wednesday.

"However, the company now wants to use the name only for its internal purposes," its chief executive Chris Tobit told a function organised on the occasion.

On Jan 12 this year, Bharti Airtel announced to buy a 70 percent stake of Warid Telecom in a deal worth about $1 billion.

The deal paved the way for Bharti to go for its second venture outside India. In 2009, the company had launched its mobile services in Sri Lanka on a state-of-the-art 3.5 G network.

Earlier, Warid Telecom was a fully-owned subsidiary of Dhabi Group, offering mobile services across 64 districts of Bangladesh with a total customer base of over 2.9 million.

Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel has gone on re-branding campaign for Airtel.

Airtel chairman and Managing director Sunil Bharti Mittal recently unveiled its new logo, designed by UK-based Brand Union.

Evil Bhartis are taking over the world :yahoo:

Lol... this is going to be a lost adventure..... warid was in deep trouble.. I just wonder whether Bharti Airtel will be able to make any difference... do not forget Airtel paid a huge amount to buy warid.... atleast warid got the money back that they invested...

Plus the fact that the OP goes on to say that Warid is a shithole company and now it's gonna drag Airtel down with it :yahoo:

This could become (yet) another whine thread

The word "Bharti" used in Indian's context is not a problem....the problem is the subtle tones of ridicule that are hinted whenever the word is used by other members in this forum in India's context.....
