BHOPAL: The explosives expert of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Majid Nagori, surrendered at the Bhopal district court on Thursday. He has been remanded to custody of the anti-terrorist squad till February 8.

Nagori, 35, a resident of Mehidpur near Ujjain was wanted for violations of the Explosive Substances Act. He is suspected of being in touch with the Mehidpur and Solapur modules of SIMI. "He learned to construct Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) from Al Qaeda linked portals. He is accused in two cases and has been sent to police remand until February 8," ATS chief Sanjeev Shami told TOI.

After surrendering, Nagori's counsel Parvez Alam told reporters his client was not involved in any terror activity. He had read in newspapers on January 20 that a bounty of Rs 15,000 had been declared on him by ATS.

"We have not received the chargesheet yet, so we don't know under what sections he has been charged. We only know that he is accused under the Explosives Act and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA)," he said.

ATS had declared a bounty on three people, including Nagori and Sajid from Mehidpur and Gulrez from Indore for violation of the Explosives Act.

On January 2, ATS seized a huge cache of explosives from Mehidpur and arrested four people, based on information from an arrested terror suspect, Abu Faisal, who was arrested in Barwani district on December 24. An accused in the 2008 blasts in Ahmedabad and the Manappuram gold heist in Bhopal in 2010, Faisal escaped from Khandwa jail on October 1 along with six others, one of whom was re-arrested.

On December 25, ATS seized a large amount of explosives in Solapur and arrested two men with the help of Maharasthra police.
