Impressive for a poor country where cars are luxury items. In this competitions the Thai wins more awards. Beside Math, Vietnam does well in science.

Vietnam has won the first and second prizes at an international contest, dedicated to designing vehicles that consume fuel efficiently, which wrapped up in the Philippines on Sunday.

Two Vietnamese teams, LH-Gold Energy from Lac Hong University, located in the southern province of Dong Nai, and CKD-MN10 from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, received their prizes at the awards ceremony of Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2015, also known as SEM ASIA 2015, in Manila yesterday.

LH-Gold Energy captured the first prize worth US$2,000 in the Shell FuelSave Gasoline section of the “Prototype” category that focused on maximum efficiency.

CKD-MN10 bagged the second prize worth $1,000 in the Alternative Fuel section of the “Urban Concept” category whose emphasis was on practical designs.

SEM ASIA 2015, held from February 26 to March 1, challenged 127 student teams from 17 different countries around the world to design, build and test ultra energy-efficient vehicles, according to its website.

In 2012, a team from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology took home the second prize in the Ethanol class of the “Prototype” category. The team drove 455.5 kilometers on a liter of ethanol.

The 2015 edition was the sixth time Shell Eco-Marathon Asia had been organized in Asia and was the second year the event had taken place in Manila.

The contest is slated to be hosted by the U.S. from April 9 to 12 and Europe from May 21 to 24.
