It can therefore be concluded that China weights the revenues generated by oil extraction and their energy security more
heavily than drawing criticism for their aggressive and illegal claims on the currently disputed areas

Philippine ships are still afloat. If the Philippine Navy had sent an armed ship just off the coast of Hainan Island instead of
Scarborough Shoal, the Chinese Navy (PLAN) would have reduced it to scrap metal in just a few seconds, bombed Manila to the ground, and the Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations would have thrown a tantrum! Instead China has refused to fire the first shot and has refused to bring the matter to the UN, which China is a PERMANENT member of. I am sure Chinese propaganda would describe this as “Chinese Goodwill” but it just shows how weak China’s LEGAL claim to Scarborough Shoal really is.
