HANOI — Vietnam has expedited the shipment of 450,000 DuPont protective suits to the United States to help healthcare professionals there fight the coronavirus, the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi said on Wednesday.

"The first of two initial shipments of over 450,000 made-in-Vietnam DuPont protective suits arrived in U.S. Strategic National Stockpile on April 8," the Embassy said in a statement.

"This shipment will help protect healthcare professionals working on the front lines against COVID-19 in the United States and demonstrates the strength of the U.S.-Vietnam partnership," it added.

Vietnam, which has recorded 251 coronavirus cases, with no deaths, said on Tuesday it had donated 550,000 masks to five European countries.

Vietnam will deliver in total 2.25 million of the suits over the next 5 weeks. The US can order additional 4.5 million Tyvek suits if necessary.

Why would they do that?

I could be wrong, I think it's called trade.

Trade is a basic economic concept involving the buying and selling of goods and services, with compensation paid by a buyer to a seller, or the exchange of goods or services between parties. Trade can take place within an economy between producers and consumers. International trade allows countries to expand markets for both goods and services that otherwise may not have been available to it. It is the reason why an American consumer can pick between a Japanese, German, or American car. As a result of international trade, the market contains greater competition and therefore, more competitive prices, which brings a cheaper product home to the consumer.

The only one that is happy is Jared Kushner and gang. He and family are middleman of all PPE, charging exorbitant premium.

Cheaper but better quality than CN med stuff. All med stuff ( mask, ventilator, suit etc) meet JP-US quality before exporting.

So, from now, the whole world can use cheap price but high quality VN med stuff to fight against corona

I bet Trump now realize that cancelling TPP is his biggest mistake in his life when refusing to move US medical equipment factories to VN.

Thousands US ppl died for that wrong decision while VN can not manufacture enough med stuff to US.:coffee:

Yes withdrawing from TPP is the major mistake by the US. Too bad.

HCMC - The United States is collaborating with Vietnamese partners to produce coronavirus protective gear and face masks and is seeking to transfer ventilator manufacturing technology to Vietnam, stated Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang at a regular press meeting on April 9.

Hang pointed out that 450,000 protective suits produced in Vietnam by U.S.-based company DuPont were transported to the United States on April 8. The second batch of protective suits will be sent to the United States today, April 10.

To promote international collaboration in dealing with Covid-19, Vietnam is speeding up technology transfers and partnering with the United States to produce medical equipment and face masks meeting the N95 standard, which can prevent 95% of micro particles from entering the nose and mouth area. These products will be exported to countries in need, including the United States.

“I really appreciate the United States’ efforts in seeking appropriate Vietnamese partners to transfer technologies to help Vietnam produce mechanical ventilators,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson remarked.
