Similar in size and scale to NMIA

2 x close parallel runway. This is not optimized. Vietnam got duped by French consultants.

BTW I am an aviation enthusiast.

Singapore Changi airport 3 x far parallel runway is a better design. I suspect Singapore masterplan is 4 x far parallel runway.

Good luck. Indonesia's Soekarno Hatta Airport is undergoing expansion at the moment and will have a 110 million passenger capacity once it is completed. Looking forward to see more ASEAN airports of this size.

Currently, there is a problem regarding the operation of third runway of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The distance between runway 07R/25L and 06/24 is 480 meters and below the normal standard (780 meters). It makes the operation for both runways is limited. Based on ICAO regulations, at present because of wake turbulence, parallel runway which the distance is less than 760 m will be considered as single runway. Both runways can be used as segregated operation runway. Segregated mode of operations is the operation which one runway will be used as landing only and the other will be used for landing only [18]. Both runways should install ILS for safety reasons and support the segregated runway operation.

Technically Soekarno-Hatta International Airport operation as segregated runway violates ICAO but it is reasonably safe, but with a lower margin.

This is a low cost way to get very high airport throughput -- not a bad idea.

The thing I want to comment is distance between runway one and runway two too big at 2.65km. The design of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is good but not very good.

At the way Indonesian is operating the runway, it is about 120 flight operation per hour.

That’s good. That will bring more business to ASEAN.

The capacity of various airport as follow.

1. Vietnam Ho Chi Minh Long Thanh 4 x runway (future) 105 operations per hour
2. Singapore Changi 3 x runway 120 operations per hour
3. Indonesia Soekarno Hatta 3 x runway 120 operations per hour
4. Vietnam Hanoi Noi Bai 2 x runway 54 operations per hour
5. Malaysia KL 3 x runway 120 operations per hour
6. Thailand BKK Suvarnabhumi 3 runway 94 operations per hour.

Malaysia KLIA

Malaysia KLIA is an example of superior design.

While there are many 120 operations per hour airport, Indonesia compromise a little safety but it is not really a big issue. ICAO is too conservative.

Changi, KLIA, future Noi Boi is example of good design.

Suvarnabhumi airport, one of two airports of Bangkok will serve 150m passengers by 2030.

Current BKK Suvarnabhumi is 2 x close parallel runway and one far runway. Capacity is about 94 operations per hour.

Not optimal.

I was working in a expressway project meant to connect to this.
Hope it's successful tho.

This and the Metro would solve a lot of traffic problems in HCMC.

Future Vietnam Hanoi Noi Bai airport is not optimal either. 2 pair of close parallel runway. Should not build close parallel runway.

Japan Tokyo Haneda Airport is one the worst design. 4 runway and likely throughput is about 100 operation per hour.
