Vietnam-ASEAN Relations

It's not that everyone should use the western name or the west dominates the world. We're happen to be an international forum that uses English. You guys doing it properly by inserting SCS after East Sea but your minister doesn't have the same courtesy as you by not following the proper protocol because the ASEAN forum is also an international arena. His usage of only East Sea can be viewed as ignorant at best but arrogant at worst.
Hehe, it seems like only you here think 'east sea' is not the courtesy words . That's why, you must be one of 50cent china internet warriors:P

As I said, you should not worry so much, you'll get familiar with it (East Sea, besides SCS), that isnt too difficult for you.
For ASEAN, the West's name which does not mean that can't be changed....

Actually I prefer to call it Northeast Sea or NE Sea in English and DongBei Hai 東北海 in Chinese as the sea is situated NE of Singapore. So you guys remember my meaning when I say NE sea in the future.

I will not accept you name the Sea, but it will not problem if your government (Singapore Government) names officially for the Sea "Northeast Sea" or something.

You see, the Philppines' Government just to name recently for the Sea as "West Philippine Sea", and there is no reason to oppose that, and practically none opposed it.

Apparently, You or Singapore can rename anything you want. Not for China Sea or any China related is OK.

China’s first ambassador to ASEAN, Yang Xiuping, presented her credentials to ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan at the ASEAN Secretariat’s headquarters in the capital city of Indonesia on August 6.

During talks following the credentials presentation, Surin and Yang pledged to work closely to strengthen the strategic partnership relations between the Southeast Asian bloc and China.

Yang, who previously severed as ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives, expressed her honour to assume the post of China’s first resident ambassador to ASEAN and emphasised that her diplomatic mission will work to fortify ASEAN-China strategic partnership.

“The diplomatic mission will serve as a bridge of communication, cooperation, a messenger of friendship, bringing ASEAN – China strategic partnership to a new height”, said Yang.

On his part, Surin said that ASEAN encourages China to pour more investments into ASEAN.

Both the Secretary-General and the ambassador showed optimism on the possibility of raising the two-way trade to over 500 billion USD in 2015.

According to statistics from the ASEAN Secretariat, China remains the biggest trade partner of ASEAN. In 2011, bilateral trade turnover stood at 280.4 billion USD and China ’s direct investment in ASEAN reached 5.9 billion USD.

The only way desperate vietnam can have good relations with asean country is boot licking asss kissing to all asean:rofl:

Call a name for the Sea is "East Sea" (by way of Vietnamese) or "West Philippine Sea" (by way of Filipinos) or "South China Sea" (by way of the West) or "South Sea " (by way of the Chinese) ... without prejudice to the interests of ASEAN.

No regulations required that a Secretary General of ASEAN was forced to call the Sea is SCS.

What reason for your complaint?

Wait, what about South East Asia Sea?
So everyone is happy :enjoy:

The problem here is the same to Persian Gulf, it's the international name but the Arabs deny and call it as Arabian Gulf.
And now people call it "The Gulf", so everyone is happy :cheesy:

While visiting Yunnan in 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao declared that the province must position itself as the country's economic and cultural gateway to Southeast Asia. The province has since undertaken massive infrastructure projects strengthening its links with Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Malaysia.

With transport connectivity increasing, Yunnan is looking to further capitalize on the growing trade boom it enjoys with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Yesterday the provincial government announced an initiative to train 100,000 college students to speak Southeast Asian languages by the year 2015, China News is reporting. The initiative will involve all of Yunnan's 28 colleges and universities.

The program will encourage students interested in studying foreign languages to consider those from ASEAN countries as viable alternatives to English. Officials are hopeful that students studying foreign affairs, economics, international trade and international cultural exchange will also participate in the initiative.

To promote the program the Yunnan Education Department and Yunnan Normal University will work together to host "Southeast Asia Week" as an annual event. According to China News, the week will host language contests between different university groups and promote study-abroad opportunities.

The demand for bi- and multi-lingual graduates is expected to rise sharply in Yunnan as several transport infrastructure projects come online. Kunming will open China's fourth largest international airport on June 28. The US$3.6 billion project is expected to handle 950,000 tons of cargo per year, connect Yunnan to Europe and the Middle East and increase connectivity within Asia.

Kunming's second railway station is also currently under construction and is expected to open in 2015. When finished, the station will connect Kunming via a high speed railway network to Vientiane, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

Visa free travel to Asean countries for a month

KUALA LUMPUR: People from Asean countries can now travel to any country in the grouping for one month without visas, except for Myanmar.

Immigration director-general Datuk Mahmood Adam said Myanmar was excluded for security reasons as the country was still mired in crisis.

"Previously, tourists from Asean countries were only allowed to travel not more than 17 or 18 days without visas," he told reporters after chairing the Asean heads of immmigration and heads of consular meeting on Wednesday.

Mahmood said the extension was aimed at making travel in the region easy and encouraging them to stay longer. "We also discussed ways to increase the functions and concepts of Asean passports.

"There is a need to standardise the functions and concepts of our passports as this will help in identifying genuine passports from fakes," he added. - Bernama
