RAWALPINDI – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has expressed satisfaction over the quality and timing of the newly-constructed border forts and fences along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, said the military’s media wing.

The army chief visited North Waziristan Agency (NWA) and laid floral wreath at the Shuhada (martyrs) monument in Miranshah, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.

The COAS visited the Afghan border areas, where border forts and fences have recently been erected to secure the porous border.

He was also briefed about the security situation, rehabilitation of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) and progress on socio-economic development projects in the agency. Commander Peshawar Corps Lieutenant-General Khalid Nazir Butt was also present during the visit, ISPR added.

Many people questioned why we should not Occupy Afghan rouge region

Because that would mean giving aid to the poor afghan civilians in that area. The area itself (rugged terrain, mountains, valleys and caves gives best cover to the defensive force who can create havoc with guerilla warfare (Taliban and/or the ANA). It would be a poor strategic decision (imagine the backlash by NATO, India and even Iran) in which we would have to expend valuable resources and manpower. The only way to target terrorists in Afghanistan is through *surgical strikes* (and real ones not fake like a certain neighbor of ours) and the use of jets and long range UCAVs to bomb these scum or cross border artillery firing. Other resources are much better spent on procuring MRAPs for the FC and fencing of the border.
