Had the honour of meeting him and listening to him several times in Swat. He was a great nationalist and well versed with Pakistan's history and grass root problems. He was very well respect by the senior Army leadership as he refused to leave his home and go to a safer place once Taliban had taken over Swat, he remained and fought them with his own lashkar while most of the people had left. It's a great loss. Rest in Peace!

Veteran nationalist Afzal Khan Lala dies
Khan Lala's bravery in the face of terrorism, earned him the highest civilian award of bravery, Hilal-i-Shujaat, in 2009.
He died on Sunday morning in Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi of liver illness.
“I will die but will not leave the ground to militants,” he had said when his well-wishers and government requested him to shift to a safer place as militancy was on its peak in Swat at that time and almost all political leaders and most of the residents of the district had shifted from the area.
