Slovenia's Valhalla Weapon Systems has unveiled a new family of modular one-person turrets that it has developed using internal research and development funding.

These are being designed to be installed on existing or new-build tracked and wheeled armoured fighting vehicles to enhance their firepower.

These turrets are of all welded steel armour construction with a customer-defined level of protection using applique armour package. The steel is the Slovenian Protac 500 or that of a similar standard.

The company is quoting a maximum ballistic protection level of STANAG 4569 Level 3 and all are provided with a single piece roof hatch that opens to the rear.

The first turret is called the ASGARD 127 GS (Grab and Shoot) and armed with the FN M2 HB 12.7x99 mm machine gun (MG), which is provided with 250 rounds of ready-use ammunition.

Turret traverse is manual through a full 360° with weapon elevation from -15° to 45°.

An unusual feature is that the FN M2 HB MG has a total traverse of 15° without moving the turret.

The turret is also provided with a folding seat, which allows operation via standing or seated positions.

The flexible design of the ASGARD 127 turret is such that it can be fitted with a wide range of other weapons.

These include the Russian 14.5 x 114 mm KPV, 12.7 x 108 mm Kord, and the GSH-23 23 x 115 mm as the main armament options and the PKTM 7.62 x 54 mm MG as a co-axial weapon.

Western alternatives include the Orbital ATK Armament Systems LW25 (Light Weight) cannon, which fires 25 x 59 mm ammunition, 40 mm MK19 automatic grenade launcher, Rheinmetall MK20 Rh 202 cannon firing 20 x 139 mm ammunition, French Nexter M621 cannon firing 20 x 102 mm ammunition, or the Orbital ATK Armament Systems M230 LF firing 30 x 110 mm ammunition.
