V-22 Osprey makes first appearance in Dubai

Fresh from operations over Iraq and Afghanistan, the US Marine Corps Bell-Boeing MV-22 Osprey is making its regional airshow debut at Dubai.

The V-22 Osprey uses tiltrotor technology to combine the vertical take off and landing performance of a helicopter with the higher cruising speed and longer range of a fixed-wing aircraft.

With its nacelles and rotors vertical, it can take off, land and hover like a helicopter. Once airborne, the wingtip engine nacelles are rotated to the horizontal and the aircraft transitions to wing-borne flight, becoming a conventional turboprop aircraft capable of high-speed, high-altitude flight.

The Osprey is currently flown by the US Marine Corps and US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). More than 150 Ospreys are in service with 10 Marine Corps and two AFSOC squadrons.
The operational fleet has amassed more than 130,000 flying hours, nearly half of them accrued during the last two years.

Marine Corps MV-22s are currently deployed in Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit supporting contingency operations, while AFSOC CV-22s are deployed in support of ongoing ‘special operations’ missions.

Bell-Boeing is showcasing the Osprey’s unique capabilities, operational record and value for money in the hope that customers in the Middle East will find that its range, speed, payload, and mission flexibility makes it the right choice for their emerging requirements for additional capability in the military transport and humanitarian assistance roles.
