Uttar Pradesh registers highest post-GST revenue growth in country

Uttar Pradesh has bucked the trend amid gloomy reports about most of the states having suffered a severe revenue setback in the first month of the GST launch on July 1.

Contrary to apprehensions by authorities, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) appears to have opened to a grand start in UP as far as the impact of the new tax regime on the state exchequer is concerned. The state has registered the highest revenue rise in the country in August (the July tax paid in August) over the corresponding month of 2016.

Against the Rs 3810.08 crore commercial tax revenue earned in August last year, the state got Rs 4755.86 crore tax during the same month of this year registering a growth of 24.82%. In a recent note to the government on ‘GST’s impact on the revenue’, commercial tax commissioner Mukesh Meshram termed the increase as the highest in the country.

“Despite all the odds, the department has earned 24.82% more revenue in August this year vis-à-vis the corresponding month of the previous year and the revenue collection is 98.37% of the target,” he says in the note claiming, “The post-GST revenue rise in UP is the highest in the country.”

naturally because GST is a destination based tax. Which state buys more will get more tax unlike the selling state in earlier laws. Those who are producing are looser and those who are consuming are at advantage.

We did know that Hindi states would benefit from GST because GST is formulated to benefit Hindi states. GST increases revenues of consuming states and reduces revenues of manufacturing states. UP is not a manufacturing state,. but Maharashtra and entire southern states are.

It is all carefully planned to rob non-Hindi states to divert money to Hindi staTES.

it's about india . we have to take hindi states forward , even if we have to pass some partial laws for that . otherwise their poor stats will keep pulling india down till eternity . what is the use of being a country if the richer states don't help empower the backward ones . Maharashtra , Gujarat , and southern states enjoy the benefit of a coastline and hence are more prosperous

What benefits ? Kathiyawar is one of the poorest region of Gujarat despite having largest costlinein south asia.

This is already hurting manufacturing starues aka backbone of India such as Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Surely last thing we want is Hindi non Hindi divide in our land.

Then explain how TN is also posting record numbers post GST?

There are two parts. Intra state sales and Interstate sale. Any state may get high GST Share either its intra state sale is high or it buys more (IGST is applicable in this case and buyer state gets half of the revenue.). In TN case, it may be because of higher intra state sales Or TN may be importing goods from other state in big quantity or both.

i also don't want hindi non hindi divide , people are blaming that this law is against non hindi states , they can say that this law is for consuming states , But people have to bring in regionalism somehow

This is how a country geographically works, southern parts are more industrialists because it's feasible to bring Raw material/spare parts to the coast & pass on the manufactured products to other parts... If we also start thinking about Hindi & non Hindi thing there would be millions of cars lined up in the southern factories with no buyers in the northern parts.
There are some communal brats from outside fuels these types of hatred Into our people.

Not sure I understand the manufacturer/consumer argument but this can also be because UP has one of the largest shadow economy where nobody used to pay taxes earlier

Too desperate aren't we?
Revenues are increasing for one single fact. Businesses are unable to evade tax anymore.

Don't try to over complicate your analysis.

All the butthurt is from people who looted us without paying tax and are now being forced to pay.

Who told you this?

It is a very prosperous region with the cities like Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Surendra nagar. They have very good entrepreneurs including Dhiru bhai ambani. India's largest oil refinery and second largest private sector refinery is located in this region.
