ISLAMABAD - Intellectual Property Organization Chairman Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has said that the phenomenon of energy shortage is fairly common in most of under developed world, however many of these countries are managing the situation pretty well by way of a solid strategy, planning and utilisation of techniques and solutions that are already commonly available all over the world.
He stated this while addressing REAPs 2nd International Exhibition & Conference on Alternative Energy & Energy Efficiency, which commenced in Islamabad on Saturday, organized by Renewable & Alternative Energy Association of Pakistan. Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi said that there is an urgent need for the relevant government quarters to announce the much awaited residential renewable energy feed in tariffs. These residential feed in tariffs coupled with easily accessible financing options are essential ingredients that are a must for a thriving renewable energy culture. He was of the view that once we have put the residential FiTs (feed in tariffs) and RE financing in place I am sure and very hopeful that soon we would be a very successful and role model for other developing nations to follow as far as RE is concerned.
Afridi said that as per popular public belief renewable energy is not necessarily limited to solar or wind power generation only. Rather, the vast array of fully developed renewable energy technologies includes such commendable areas as bio energy, waste to energy, hydro power and so on. All these areas can significantly benefit from the implementation of relevant FiTs as well as financing options. Together, all these sources of energy generation can transform our country from a power deficient nation to one that has tremendous energy potential at every nook & corner in the shape of natural resources.
He said the government has already set the ball rolling for the massive adoption, implementation and development for all kinds of renewable energy industry in Pakistan through zero rating almost all RE equipments and components. When the pending recommendation made a while back, are also put in place then we will witness widespread rollout of renewable energies in our country. In this area I can foresee the very important role being played by REAP in the next many years. The trendsetting and epoch making activities of REAP will definitely have a detailed mention whenever history of energy sector in Pakistan is consulted, he added.
Later the chief guest inaugurated the exhibition.
